Well that would be a lot of bands. None of The Beatles play on songs like Yesterday, Eleanor Rigby, & Within You Without You. 2 of them have an orchestra and the other has Indian musicians. Some 1960s bands sometimes had songs with members of the Wrecking Crew or other session musicians playing on them. Their producers did this to save time & money because the session musicians generally didn't have to do a lot of takes which might happen with actual band members or the band members might have been too high or drunk to play well on a recording. It's rumored that Alec John Such didn't play on some Bon Jovi songs. On Bon Jovi's 1st single Runaway, the band didn't exist and it was session guys. The group was formed afterwards and they appeared in the music video. Also The Time didn't play on much of the stuff before Pandemonium.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Surprised this story hasn't garnered more traction. It's a pretty big scandal and admission.

Sony Confesses To Releasing Fake Michael Jackson Music

In 2010, several songs were released that were said to be recorded by the late Michael Jackson. Four years later, one fan questioned the music’s validity, leading many to believe the music was fraudulent. Now, nearly three years after the scandal, Sony Music Entertainment has admitted to releasing and selling fake tunes by the late legend.

The fake songs reportedly appeared on the 2010 posthumous album Michael. The songs in question include: “Monster,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Breaking News.” In court documents obtained by Karen Civil, Vera Servoa – the fan who kickstarted the investigation into the fake MJ songs – filed a civil suit, accusing Jackson’s longtime friends Eddie Cascio, James Victor Porte, and his production company, Angelikson Productions LLC of creating and selling music through Sony and the Jackson estate.

Cascio and Porte initially claimed that the songs were recorded in Cascio’s basement in 2007. Serova and the Jackson family, contested those claims however. While the singles sounded similar to MJ’s sound, they said Michael never recorded them. Serova testified in the Los Angeles Superior Court that they were recorded by an impersonator named Jason Malachi.

Consequently, Sony Music Entertainment conceded in court, that it had released fake singles. It’s unclear if fans or Jackson’s estate will be awarded for the criminal behavior or whether there will be an monetary punishment for Sony.

Also, more here:

Tbh, those songs sounded fake from the get-go. Surely there'll be repercussions for Sony and the goons who tried to piss on MJ's legacy.

Is it legal in the US to say something in court then deny it?

Yep. Shameful on so many levels.

Even more shameful that the Jackson Family didn't step up to sue but rather left it to a fan (with presumably deep pockets).

All the parties involved knew what they were doing.

They didn't admit it, but they say even if they thought it was fake they'd be cool with releasing it.

Which is possibly worse. At least before they had the somewhat plausible deniability of officially not realizing it was fake when it came out.

Been sayin it for 8 years before they dropped the release Right out the gate

I remember back in the day i knew "Breakin the news was to debute, id log in early in the morning to listen to it thinking wtf is this? Looking online i saw people diveded about the issue and even a fellow fan said the thought it was genuine and i would like to slap the person untill they heard the difference between lets say, Best of joy, Hold my hand or something different sounding like Privacy and 2000 whatts and this was totally a different sound of voice. 2 bad this cant be reversed, its not like they would reprint the album with 3 other full demos etc. Its a shame the fans got fooled like this... For this reason i didnt want to buy it either, with retrograde analysis the source material is less tinkerd with than Xscape and Much too soon, Best of Joy, and even Behind the mask with the stupid crowd noises are not as bad as a remixed DYKWYCA

I believe the issue is that Michael Jackson unofficially retired as a recording artist after Invicincible. He retired in his heart at that moment but would never make an official announcement.

He was no longer working on studio music project efforts at that point so the majority of the posthumous music that has been released since that first album, those demos/recordings took place between the early 80s (Love Never Felt So Good) up until the late 90s/or right at the beginning of the 2000s (Excape).....

Future posthumous work is going to be too far in between.....

But in the end, after 40 years of making music, there was enough music he left behind over 40 years to be appreciated....
