What's up with the auto-tune? That was another thing I picked up while watching The Bobby Story during some of the musical numbers I don't recall that being used in his music when he was at his peak? Keep Calm & Listen To Prince

Probably because autotune didn't exist until around the mid or late 1990s. Although some people think vocoder & talkbox is the same thing as autotune. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Song has nice beat but lyrics are weak. Bobby probably using auto tune because his voice isn't what it once was. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

I wish he had released this back in the day on the Bobby album
And there was no mention of the album with the B Brown Posse - Drop It On The One (1993) on The Bobby Brown Story

. I agree, just last night I was browsing compilations on Amazon and came across this: https://www.amazon.com/Dont-Be-Cruel-Re-Recorded/dp/B00HEOG34M . They use a strange effect on his vocal as its so murky and unpleasant. . I did find a nice re-recorded version of Shannon doing Sex Shooter if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

This is a "new" release? The beat sounds like something I've heard before.. I think it came from the reality tv show?

Why do so many people on this site give a shit about Bobby Brown? I just don't get it. Sure, he had a few hits 25 years ago, but come on?? Some of you think BB is something special? You act as though Bruno Mars has the plague, when it fact, he's 10 times more talented than Bobby.

. People have opinions, opinions are subjective. Some may sigh and be annoyed that another post about the genius of Terence Trent D'Arby or how Bruno Mars is groundbreaking, some feel the need to type out that annoyance. 10 times is super subjective, especially when a lot of Mars' swag is attributed to MJ or Prince but is very Bobby Brown. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

I like Bruno Mars a lot and think he has great potential for longevity in the music industry but he is no match for Bobby Brown in his hey day. Bobby was no joke. Crazy swagger, great dancer and entertainer and created some awesome hits. Bobby is the original pop/r&b star. Bruno is like a tribute artist.

Bobby & New Edition still get a lot of airplay. If they didn't have an audience BET wouldn't have made 2 different miniseries about them. The New Edition Story got close to 30 million views the first week it aired, and it was reported that their star ceremony at the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2017 got a bigger crowd than anyone else before them (and it was raining). They got a new generation of fans after the NE movie aired with Youtube videos of little kids & young adults singing their songs or doing the choreography from the videos. There's even one with Shaq O'Neal. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The first time I heard "Girlfriend," I thought his voice SUCKED and still DO. I even think New Edition sucks. SO BAD IN FACT, that they had 2 recruit the AWESOME Johnny Gill 2 give them soulful flava. N.E. and Brown are the weakest, whiniest, most babyish soundin' bruthas on the face of the earth. Gill, on the other hand, was singin' like a BIG BOY even when he was a LITTLE boy. He got SOUL and PASSION in his vocals. The rest of N.E. They can't sing! Well...they can SING, but in the sense of carrying a tune. There's no vocal AWESOMENESS in their talent as far as I'm concerned. STILL NOT a fan all these years later. And when Whitney had the auDACITY 2 proclaim him "the ORIGINAL KING of R&B," I was revolted. What disrespect to the TRUE ORIGINAL KINGS of R&B who COULD SING! Put whiney Brown up against Peabo Bryson or Donny Hathaway. It's blasphemy. MY opinions/what MY ears have heard all my life, of course. No offense toward other tastes/preferences intended. Peace luv 'n blessin's. <3

p.s. This stuff's tight, but tight for 2004. The Old School artists don't usually succeed with new releases cuz they can't break out of their original "sound" dating back to their HEY days. Charlie Wilson and Ronnie Isley COULD and still CAN. Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

Ain't no "probably". Bobby's voice BEEN shot "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I remember about 7 years ago my wife and my sister went to see New Edition in concert and they both came back and told me Bobby sounded better than Johnny Gill. I said shit both of yall must of been high. [Edited 9/15/18 23:17pm] Don't laugh at my funk

I also think it has something to do with how great the music and live performances etc was in the 80/90s, which was a part of my musical soundtrack, growing up listening to New Edition and Bobby Brown ,who for a short period of time was an amazing performer.....not Mr Whitney Houston!
