I did end up catching some of the show later on....I'm huge Madge fan but that tribute was quite bad. And what kind of look is she going for? I don't understand it.
The outfit was horrendous, god knows what she was going for there!
The speech though ... apparently she was asked just before she went out to share any anecdotes she had about her career and Aretha, which is exactly what she did. I don't see the harm in that. It wasn't meant to be any sort of official tribute and its not like she said anything bad about the lady, it was positive stuff.

Well, if its the worst thing that happens in the world this week I think we can consider the goal of world peace and unity well and truly achieved ... this will be waaaaaaaay down the list of 'things to get your knickers in a twist over' for me.

Both Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj had some production value to their performances. Jennifer Lopez did a great presentation for winning the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award.
A friend of mine who is 21 is visiting New York and happened to be outside before the show, and he said "I forgot MTV existed". |

I find it strange that they did a " tribute" to Aretha Franklin but did nothing for Prince, Bowie, or George Michael if I remember correctly. Just strange to me.

What tribute? Madonna's ramblings was not a tribute. They could have pulled together a couple of real singers to do a proper tribute but, oh, I forgot, the demographic who watches the MTV Awards probably don't know or care who Aretha was or probably only know her because their great-grandmothers used to play her music. So MTV really didn't give a rat's behind about a proper Aretha tribute. But, I'm sure the other awards shows will do fitting tributes. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Very hypocritical, because we all know that Crooked Hillary along with her husband, committed many crimes, and absolutely nothing was done, so if they lock Donnie up they should lock them up right along with him. [Edited 8/22/18 9:56am] |

Ok, i’ll be Reasonable. We know Hillary was never charged with a crime. Let’s wait and see what happens to crooked Donnie (who if he wasn’t president would have absolutely been charged as co-conspirator along with his buddy Cohen [Edited 8/22/18 10:14am] |

I don’t even believe in “cultural appropriation” being a real thing, but it looked like she was going for a cultural appropriation vomit of everything she could think of.
I think she was auditioning for some STAR WARS NOMAD or something... or some generalized hippie trash from VENICE BEACH. You could literally just cut and paste her into some STAR WARS land... PATO BANTON or whatever da fuq they're calling the new places...
Minutes after leaving the stage, she was seen fidgeting around for her pockets, then asking passerby for ANY SMOKES?...ANYTHING? [Edited 8/22/18 14:48pm] ♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫ |

It’s not sad, the song Post performed is catchy yet pedestrian. I only know Post Malone from that one song, but it’s not terrible. I wouldn’t call it Amazing or anything but not terrible.
It’s cool, we can all like what we like. But post does look like a douche.

It sucked this year, and it wasn't very much of a tribute to Aretha.
Nicki always seems to be feuding with someone, every award show. |

That's why they have to resort and rely on comedic skits and props in order to carry out the show...
They didn't have to do that in the 80s
the industry knows the music is done, the real music is done... |

I read what Madonna said about Aretha. Much ado about nothing.
As far as her outfit... I just didn't realize she'd been cast on Game of Thrones!

I didn't see the show (actually I don't have a TV), but.....how come the music I hear about on this forum (which, btw, proves that music is NOT dead) never gets an award? Like, how come someone like Jacob Collier never gets anything?? |

It is a very obvious gimmick but doesn't put her in the best light. Beefing with people because she hit #2 on the charts instead of #1.

I thought it was a gimmick at first also, and thought that "what if these 2 are just faking a beef in order to get people to buy both their albums?"..because it's what they do these days, fake everything and fool the public, in order to sell their goods (thanks Kartrashians!)..but I read somewhere that it's not a gimmick on her part, that she's really pissed, and just wants to expose the lies and fakeness of the business, and that she's pissed at the games they play in the business. |
