It's a good tribute, too.

20/20 was great also.

I never understood what's so great or special about her, but she seemed like a fine lady. RIP

She was blessed with a God given gift. It just bugs me that when someone famous passes, all the tweets, posts, and tributes start, about how much they loved the person and their music, and how much they will be missed, when many have never even spoke of the person while they were alive, nor mentioned their music, it's just all so fake to me. rolleyes That's why I don't like Twitter and all the sites like them, because it's just about getting their posts seen, with everyone jumping on the bandwagon, and seeing who can post theirs the fastest, and it all comes off as so fake.

I know what you mean, what irritates me more, way more, is all the useless gossip by the "fans" that is what pissed me off about P's death the most, that i would have to endure that bullshit. "so and so ain't no good, so and so is, and so and so blah, blah lb

in my opinion, better than Prince on the keys. One of the greats of the rock and roll era (whether you count her as part of that tradition or not). Being a pianist, i love watching her play, don't play that song for me is a great one, i also loved her playing on a temptations tribute where it looked like she was pretty much improving. Like I said, she almost stands alone for what we usually think of as "divas" she could actually play an instrument well.

She was such an impressive vocalist that her skills on the piano seem to take a back seat. She should've been recognized as a pianist in the way that Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and Billy Joel were. RIP

it's unfortunate, and not fair but female singers who have more than just a voice to offer have a hard time. I think it was Patrice Rushen, could have been someone else, but I heard that they had an extensive musical education, knowledge of theory/composition etc.., and it made things harder for her because she had more than just a voice. I didn't know until a few years ago that Tammi Terrel was a piano prodigy as a child, no one really cared. It doesn't help that there is always some male pig around who wants to play control freak, Aretha escaped some of that when she got away from John Hammond who "discovered" her, he said in a docu "you are going to ruin this GIRL" which just shows how lowly he thought of her. Celine dion had a husband pulling the strings, diana ross had BG, Whitney had Clive, male artists have to deal with the same mentality but not nearly as much.

^You should, it's great fun. This scene is one of the best, another favourite of mine is the scene in the country bar.

It was such a great theatrical performance, too. You never forget as she singing that this a woman who's had it with her husband and his failed music career. Finally, they have some stability and he's going to throw it all away. You can tell she was digging through some real life experiences and brought a ground reality to an over the top musical sequence.

Not only that, it's also the story of a woman who has to stay home and do the house work while the man goes out and has fun. That's why this scene is so great, it's not just funny and good music, it also says a lot about the position of men and wonen in society.

From Billboard

Aretha Franklin’s funeral will be held Aug. 31 in her hometown of Detroit.

The late singer’s publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, said Friday (Aug. 17) that the funeral, to be held at Greater Grace Temple, is limited to the Queen of Soul’s family and friends.

Public viewings will take place Aug. 28-29 at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Since I woke up yesterday morning in Detroit...with a whole of my own personal shit to deal with...I've been on auto-pilot because everywhere I've been and everything I've done has had Queen Auntie Riri (to me)...right there with me! I got stuck at a railroad crossing and this song came on the radio...in my car and several cars stuck there with me.

My damn iPhone was out of juice, so I could not record...but I swear on everything that I hold dear...the people that were stuck there with me from all walks of life...just broke out dancing...laughing...singing...hugging...crying and having one hell of a good time with each other...in celebration of Queen Auntie ReRe! When the train ended, we all moved on about our business but I took that love, energy and RESPECT with me throughout the rest of my day and all I know is that it was EVERYWHERE...even before I got there!!!

I was Baptised at Greater Grace Temple, so I don't care how early I have to get there...I am going to be there for Queen Auntie ReRe! heart

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I got many a laugh (as a guy) for my rendition of her take on the “A Differnet World” theme. She’s just one of those singers who you’ve always known.. you don’t remember when you first heard them. This kinda stings.

Thank you Aretha. Oddly enough, iTunes just added some Price albums to their store and I heard his take on Rock Steady with his band. Funky.
