Bootsy Collins’ Cover of Jimi’s “Power Of Soul”

What do you guys think of this cover? I’m pleasantly surprised. In fact, I steer away from cover tribute albums, but this one - which I is where I heard Prince’ version of “Red House” from initially - is such a cool tribute album, Chaka’s of “Little Eings” is there which is pretty nice too. I’ll hold it up there with Herbie Hancock’s Joni Mitchell tribute album

Wow. This is even more psychedelic than Jimi's own music. But Billy Cox as a bassist is of course as far removed from Bootsy Collins as Planet Earth from Planet Venus. P-Funk has this ability to send your mind high into the sky while keeping your feet on the dance floor at the same time. Power of Soul indeed.

I was never much of a Jimi Hendrix fan (I'm still not) but I remember seeing this album in HMV and buying it just for Lenny Kravitz. Thinking back, this was the first CD I ever owned that Prince was on and I never bothered to listen to his contribution until years later. I always loved the Bootsy Collins version of Power of Soul though. To this day I've never heard Jimi's version.

Cee Lo’s “Foxy Lady” and John Lee Hooker’s “Red House” are top notch too. The bonus CD I have “The Stars up Above (That Play with Laughing Sam’s Dice”) done by Vernon Reid and it’s also really good!

Isn’t it? I’m loving this version so much, made me gain a new appreciation for the original.
