Yes she did. I forgot about Pat.

So, i guess if i had to list my top two greatest rock singers of all time i would probably choose Freddie Mercury and Little Richard.

Anyway, some great posts on here.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

He had a hell of a voice back in the day ... I saw a doc where they were discussing The Joshua Tree; the range he sang I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For was crazy apparently and most singers would struggle to hit it.

Just such a shame he turned in to a self-righteous twat during the 90s ... can't stand him these days.

Little Richard
Freddie Mercury
Ronnie James Dio
Rob Halford
Paul Stanley
Elvis Presley
Chris Cornell
Layne Staley

notable:
Axl Rose

*(all of the above could at one time perform just about any style and range)

**(Axl makes it with the ease at which he seems to do it)

** Solomon Burke should rank this list except he sang predominantly Rock and Blues, gospel. Had he also done a metal album, he'd prob be here; the requirement was GREATEST not favourite)

***King Diamond? ? U gotta be smoking crack. He sucks.....it said GREATEST not favorite. He's a one gimmick pony, also ridiculous, and reportedly an asshole as well.

Nobody "sucks". All entertainers are good to someone. It doesn't matter if music snobs or people who think they're cool like them or not. There's no such thing as a greatest singer anyway.

ya, like i said, lots of great talent, it's almost like picking the prettiest women, there are a million of them. there really are, how many times have we heard out of this world vocals on some commerial or advertisement? someone mentioned george michael? hell ya, he was a good one too, not rock enough maybe but great. As I said though, when we speak of rock and roll, to me that always means a voice with outrageous fervor, outrageous fun, outragous rage, like Little Richards, he will always be the best at "rock and roll" always, the heavy metal folks often tried to imitate his voice but never did anyone capture the perfection of that outragous, loud, consistent voice. Lucille was the perfect rock and roll performance who no one has topped, and he made it before you could take a million takes and polish it. He was no slouch as a songwriter and pianist either.

Alright... fair enough. APologies... I have a personal dislike for KD - SOLO... terrible mess stuff with one album exception.

MERCYFUL FATE on the other hand was fantastic almost all the time.

with me, he rates with Morrissey... can't stand listening to his solo shit. It's ridiculous. Mockable ridiculous.. OOooOoHh...I'm EEEEeeeevil......lemme do this stupid act all day... AAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIEEEE....

Absolutely stupid s#.....alright alright... I'm going.... [escorted out of discussion]

yeah Plant was fantastic... wasn't a well rounded singer until recently... when he lost his rock voice. Same reason I won't mentione Roger Daltrey who is incredible for his band.

Thank you. I used to be somewhat of a "music snob" but realized that my opinion doesn't really mean nada. People like what they like, and that's it. It's not worth the spent energy going on about who and what is "good" or not. Take for instance Axl Rose. I'm not really a fan of his singing but millions of people are and who am i to dispute that. Same with King Diamond(which i am a fan of). Those two dudes voices aren't all that dissimilar, so what makes one one of the greatest singers of all time(or considered a good singer), and the other one not?

Music/singing is one of the greatest pleasures(or gifts, or expressions) of life, and should be all inclusive...

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

He did indeed. Though while Micky is vastly underrated as a rock vocalist (as The Monkees themselves are as a band), if I were to answer this question seriously, I'd sooner consider the already mentioned Jagger, Mercury, McCartney, & add Sting & Van Morrison to the list. Both of them have had successful careers over multiple genres for decades, but if you listen to Van Morrison's Moondance, for example, the first 5 or 6 songs showcase 5 or 6 different vocal deliveries. While Morrison has aged into jazz, blues, etc., you can't forget his earlier solo work, or his gritty stuff with Them.

That's because the powers that be (like Jann Wenner) consider them put together for a TV show. Mike Nesmith is indirectly responsible for MTV being created, because Warner Brothers bought his show Pop Clips. Nez also made the 1st longform music video (Elephant Parts) way before Beyoncé's Lemonade and he won a Grammy for it. Nez is also one of the first to do country rock.

Yeah, you guys were known as The Prefab Four. It was all a little before my time (I was born in 1971), but it seems that from the beginning, there was a distinction between "serious" acts like Dylan and The Beatles etc and "pop" acts like The Monkees and, years later, The Spice Girls and so many others. That said, while I collect records by Dylan and Prince and such, I also find songs like I'm a Believer or Wannabe very enjoyable.
