A very interesting website

I heard about this today:

inmusik.co

What does everybody think of this thing? I'm tending towards trying it out myself, because the concept really DOES seem extremely cool! (though I have questions about the whole thing which I'd need answered before I actually DO anything...) Anybody else wanna give it a go?

It's something to do with investing in a song using "cryptocurrency".

...and bro, if you mean that your computer is going to get infected with a virus simply on going to a random website, it's time to try a different OS!!

"Cryptocurrency" is too cryptic for me...

I don't really understand cryptocurrency either, but it's some kind of "internet money". It's not backed by any government, and you generate it by "mining" it, using high power computers. There's quite a few of them - sure you've heard of Bitcoin, and there's Ethereum and Litecoin (and probably many more), too.

I donno - even though I know next to zero about it, it *seems* something cool. Something that deserves further investigation.

Bitcoin? That's how you pay for a hitman and mailorder contraband. I'll get my music from locations that accept cash and mastercard.

It means that noone online is going to run out and get the ideal OS just so they can click on your links. So if you like having people respond to your threads then you need to take into consideration that people are not going to click links from an unknown source without some background information first. You do this all the time, and I don't get why you haven't understood that by now. Either you want to spend your time advertising Operating Systems or you want people to talk to you about things you're interested in. Your choice.

Time keeps on slipping into the future...

I still buy CDs: that format invented in the 80s by Philips and Sony. It has better sound quality than any streaming service. It often comes with artistic printed art. It doesn't report my likes or dislikes or listening activity to anyone. It allows offline play. It doesn't let others know what I am listening to. It doesn't rely on a spyware app running on a spyware operating system.

I can convert CDs to FLAC files and any other format I wish for free, now and in the future.

I think artists selling directly to fans and managing royalties with their own business is the real future of smart art. Which is why I laugh at statements like this being used on the linked website:

Inmusik is working with the biggest publishing companies in the world to create a better copyright management system for the entire industry, on blockchain.

I think technologies like this just bring us one step closer to having every life activity tracked for corporate whores and governments to more effectively assert their totalitarian control over every single activity in our lives.

Therefore I laugh at any notion of decentralization. Decentralization starts with the artists themselves choosing not to give up their power to others to 'manage' for them, and it starts with regular users choosing to ignore the services and spyware apps offered to them by the shonks.

yeahthat Yes--what he said, too. You own stuff that you buy. You do with it what you want, within reason. You support the people who create what is being sold. This system works great and benefits who it supposed to without the electronically-woven strings presented by the media conglomerates.

What a notion!

I *completely* agree with you. (that's actually partly the reason I posted the link here, to see if anybody could figure out if that *is* what this thing is...!)

It's just amazing how nobody's worked it out, yet.

These kind of marketing endeavors take a focused team to provide a great service and handling all that needs doing. That's probably why artists working their own top-to-bottom marketing of goods and administration takes time to get a grasp on to properly orgainze. People need to be assembled toward the task. I know that Sananda Maitreya the former Terence Trent D'Arby has his own selling thing going on (https://www.sanandamaitreya.com/). He employs a small team to make his "Treehouse Publishing" go. I imagine that there are others scattered about who do the same, but many indie artists hand their business over to small labels to handle such adminstrative deeds.

Making your own choices and representing one's self as a full-on business entity is definitely self-determining and smart for some.

yes

You'd better think twice if you consider what Facebook did (and still does) with people's data.
Bitcoin was made to exist outside of any government regulation, with the promise to be fully traceable.
Now at least private banks are some serious scrutiny, no matter how many subprime-like crises we have to face in the future.
The system holds because there's a third party, and a big one, overlooking what the banks and every other financial organism does.
It doesn't stop Goldman Sachs and others to be utterly cynical in their assets management, but at least the world keeps on turnin, which is quite a miracle with so many conflicts of interest.

Now if you choose to take some government's supervision out of the equation, I'm not sure of the end result.
Listen to what Ol' Bill has to say about it.
Would you like your money to be hacked? What next, twenty years from now, your own ID?
Digital is digital, I'm working in the field, but I don't have to explain you the danger.
Banks are under constant, daily cyber-attacks. They just don't tell you about it, unless it's so big the news spread.
Like you said, it *seems* cool. But think .mp3: it's cool, but it's the reason albums and audiophile experience died for the masses. Most people are born deaf, and by deaf I mean not sensible to music. Not in a deep way anyway. Not so cool.

Now imagine governments taking a stronghold on cryptocurrency, saying it's bad (the mafia are making big bucks we ain't seeing),
and decide that everything you do digitally is now centralized.

Bitcoin is produced in farms, and producing one single bitcoin requires lots of energy and time, because every bitcoin stores every other bitcoin's transaction ; all of them. In theory, there should be no money laundering.
Uh, wait, what?

But say, we don't want the mob, we follow that path, but if we let governments turn everything into digits,
there will soon be so much vital things into your chip/SMS Card/whatever storage device
that you'll be consulting offers for implanting it in your brain in no time.
Is that the life you envison for your kids?

I say, fuck the Spooky Electronic Currency.

I understand next to zero about finance and economics - what does Goldman Sachs do exactly? What is it's job? Maybe YOU could explain it to me??

Isn't it just a good idea if the govt keeps it's nose out of people's business??

Also, what does Facebook have to do with Bitcoin??!!

Is "A very interesting website" the best you could do for a title?

.

Ugh, I wish mods would lock threads with bad titles.

From a listeners viewpoint I don't find it a very interesting website.
Maybe if I was a musician I would find it intriguing.
