New Artists, What is everyone listening to now? Since the death of Prince I have been embracing some great new artists. Anyone else? The majority of them are British acts and I have been to some fantastic gigs with really talented live musicians. Here's a list of my new roster of musicians : Blossoms Sundara Karma Clean Cut Kid The Amazons Barns Courtney Shame Anteros Yonaka There are others but these are definitely worth checking out! I'd love to check out any suggestions πββ€

Not technically new but kind of new, I would recommend checking out Tuxedo. They've released two albums to date, called "Tuxedo" and "Tuxedo II" as well as their recent single "Shy", which features Zapp. So hopefully "Tuxedo III" is on the way soon.

I'll be looking forward to the third album. My complaint when I went to see the show is that it was too short...but that was because that's all the material they had at the time. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

They should throw a few "Tuxed up" versions of Mayer Hawthorne songs in just to pad out the set list. The Tuxedo remix of "Love Like That" is just as good as, if not better than, the original.

I have just checked Tuxedo out! Great slices of funkiness π Thanks for the recommendation! In return check out Blossoms 'Charlemagne' and Sundara Karma 'Flame'. Two of my very favourites and carrying on the 80's vibe πββ€

If you'll indulge me with this shameless plug, look up a guy called Boulevards on YouTube. Just search "Boulevards Steady" for some funky goodness.

Ooh, that's some smooth grooving right there! Thanks for another heads up. So smooth that the needle would slide off the record π I think I'll keep an eye on Boulevards too, cheers πββ€

Janelle has been on my radar since her first album and her latest is great, if a wee bit naughty! I can appreciate Sevyn Streeter is very talented but I think she's copying Beyonce too much! Great recommendations, cheers πββ€

[Edited 7/18/18 14:17pm] I have had a great time looking through these recommendations on YouTube! You are absolutely right, there are some great new musical artists out there! I can't say that I would listen to all of these again but they were all worthy! Have you tried Tiggs da Author? I think you would like him! Cheers πββ€

I'm enjoying this thread... But can someone direct me to some younger female voices that are big, rough, and can belt out songs a la Aretha, Bonnie Raitt, Ann Wilson, Chaka, and Wynonna Judd (just to mention a few favorites)? I'd like to hear them! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I'd like to hear them! Ooh, try out Yonaka. Warning, they are a bit pottymouthed but the singer can belt out with the best of them! Start with 'Wouldn't Wanna Be Ya' then try the 'Heavy' EP. If you want a raw male vocal try 'Fire' by Barns Courtney. Hope you enjoy themπββ€

As far as live music performances from young unknown bands, I'm going to see Soul Ska for my b'day tomorrow. I'm sure they will have better dancers in the audience... "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Not exactly new as in new new, but new to me but not a classic yet either I suppose. It's jazz not pop though. Time keeps on slipping into the future...
