She didn't get the help she so desperately needed while she was alive, and neither did her daughter, so why rehash it all when absolutely nothing can be done about it? I just don't get that! Let the woman rest in peace!
The same could be said about Marilyn Monroe. We are still speculating about her life and death when she died well before most of us were even born. Before a lot of our parents were even born! Is it your stance that Whitney is more sacred, or less interesting and deserving?
There's a burn out point with all celebrity death speculation...including Marilyn Monroe. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Can someone please explain how Whitney, through her mom or marriage or whatever is related to Dionne and Dee Dee Warwick? I never quite understood that.
i think the article says dionne is her niece, not sure of the family dynamics but i always saw a resemblance, i think it's a blood relationship. |

No, not at all. I don't consider Whitney more sacred, less interesting and deserving, even though I did love her and thought she was a great singer, I just think that now that she's gone, they should just let her rest in peace, since she suffered so much while here on earth, and never got that peace while alive. I just don't think that they need to keep rehashing her life story over and over again, because we all know the lifestyle Whitney led, and how she died, so at this point, to keep dredging it up over and over again, is probably just for profit. Whitney was never an activist on stage or off and she never publically supported any movements or used her voice and celebrity to highlight any causes. |

I can't say I was ever a Whitney fan, I didn't hate her but I had my issues, so I get what your saying about her supporting things. But in all fainess looking at her now it seems she didn't have whatever that it factor is people have to break away and just be their own person and let the chips fall where they may, it doesn't seem that she would have been able to lend much public support to causes that weren't already approved of by those who were grooming her.

Cissy Dinkark (Houston) is Dionne's aunt. Her older sister Lee Dinkark is Dionne's mother. Cissy is the youngest child of 8 in the Dinkark family, both her parents had died before she was 18. Cissy went to live with her old sister Lee and her husband Mancel Warwick. They had 3 children Mancel junior, Marie Dionne (Dionne) and Deila Mae (Dee Dee). |

I would never say i was a huge whitney fan when she was alive, however, it was clear to me that she was one of the greatest singers at that level of pop/soul stardom ever. Truly gifted, after she passed, i did revisit her stuff as I do with a lot of people who pass on, but i was never a huge fan. After she passed, I actually watched more footage and really kinda fell in love with her personality, as her girlfriend robyn said in the "Can I be Me?" docu, "I'd say she's kinda strange" it summed her up pretty well. Great personality, funny, usually, with women that gorgeous, we don't see that kind of earthy humor. My fave part of the new docu was when she was lamenting the dominance of the artists of her era who couldn't really sing (janet, paula abdul) her mother consoles her and tells her not to sell out, whitney mimics an old time film saying "don't sell out kid" cute. I really do feel bad for her life. One thing i did learn between MJ's, whitneys and other heroes of mine who i lost suddenly was not to take them for granted, it's why i stopped saying anything overtly negative about prince and attacked (yes, attacked, i got banned twice) people who i felt stupidly criticized Prince. We think those people have it all, it's obvious they don't, that it's difficult to manage that kind of fame and power, that it's impossible to have your own identity and so there is nothing funny about how people take shots at these folks, usually for silly reasons (not talking bill cosby type stuff). |

Its all relative I guess, maybe the open dialogue about her sexuality was to eliminate any stigma about it as opposed to "rehash things"? I don't know, I like to look at things from both angles. When she was alive and the Robyn rumors were flying around, they were discussed in a negative connotation, as if being a lesbian or bisexual was supposed to be a "dirty thing". Maybe this documentary shed light to her sexuality as an effort to celebrate it, since it was ridiculed at best and stigmatized at worst when she was alive. And yes, race does play a huge factor into this as well. Society has been tough on gay men & women, it has been especially vicious on gay men & women of color, still to this day. Granted, they don't have to "come out" or make a stance nor are they obligated to, but they shouldn't have to live in fear either. I'm afraid Whitney lived in fear most of her life and ended up supressing herself in order to adhere to an image that was expected of her from the public and her family. Anyway, she's free from all that BS now. |

ya, they will still ban a long time member, the much loved and hated LR was banned after over 15 years on here. i've said it several times, that if prince had not died, i'd never have come back, some of these folks seem to think being an orger is the only way to prove you're a prince fan too and that's not true. I could take it or leave it really. |

I really like how you express yourself...and I think that your suggestion that someone should write about Prince's influence on gay people is a really valid one that hasn't been explored... How about writing a short story about how Prince influenced your life? You seem to be a good writer looking at the bigger picture....with an empathetic point of view.

I agree. This is why I want the public to see this! True bigots will blame her fluidity on being molested, but hopefully some people will realize it isn't nice to expect celebs OR FAMILY to keep a secret their whole life.

maybe it was the result of being molested, Camile Paglia said something very unPC in a talk, that most gay people she knew had certain issues with a parent. I don't think she specified what those were but she did say it. On the other hand, sexual abuse is pretty common. I knew a gay guy who was molested by his babysitter, she used to put him under her shirt and make him play around, another gay guy I knew molested his own kid, pretty sick, but he was most likely molested too. Those things will raise the hackles of all the whiney folks today but it might be a factor, it might not be. we don't really know i don't think. at any rate, it shouldn't have been and shouldn't be any kind of a big deal today. if anything, things are going too far in the other direction, masculinity is under assault everywhere. Camile says that these are signs of a society about to fall, i think she has a point. [Edited 8/7/18 12:13pm] |

Oh yeah, I saw plenty of those sentiments on Twitter Among the years, we went from hearing "gay folks are evil" to "gay folks are the product of molesation/parents' abandonment". Homosexuality has to be stigmatized by some people or they won't rest. I bet you, you'll find a big group of those people who professed shock and disbelief about her sexuality than the fact that she was molested. As if the former was the "dirty secret". |

I really like how you express yourself...and I think that your suggestion that someone should write about Prince's influence on gay people is a really valid one that hasn't been explored... How about writing a short story about how Prince influenced your life? You seem to be a good writer looking at the bigger picture....with an empathetic point of view. [/quot I've tried to start a dialogue on that subject here a few times and these homophobic orgers went into a frenzy of hissy fits |

*snort, snort giggle*.....remember when this site used to ban people at the drop of a feather? Oh how the tide has changed
ya, they will still ban a long time member, the much loved and hated LR was banned after over 15 years on here. i've said it several times, that if prince had not died, i'd never have come back, some of these folks seem to think being an orger is the only way to prove you're a prince fan too and that's not true. I could take it or leave it really. Can't say I know who LR is....but, GOOD...they probably deserved it.(or not) Some of these lifers are so self-righteous and entitled like they run shit. Knock them down a peg or two |

LR was the inimitable laurarichardson, i got along just fine with her after Prince died, before that we had some tiffs only because she was so ultra defensive of Prince, I was never a guy who thought Prince could do no wrong, but I was also not like these folks on here who said he could do no right. And these "lifers" have often tried to pull the "oh, you've only been a member since 4/21/16 so you ain't shit" I then tell them honestly that i was here as far back as at least 2004 and I got banned. Either way, like i say, being an orger doesn't make you a prince fan, most of his fans are not here. |

[i]I remember she was absolutely unwilling to entertain any thoughts on Prince that varied from her own. Good riddance |

I watched this last night and thought it was really good. I, however did not hear anything about her being molested when she was young. Did I miss it? Where was it talked about? |
