She still has shining moments in her career. She's never been a Cher, Madonna or Janet so she really still has respectable titles in her albums however her single choices have been questionable. The rappers constantly being on her singles were ruining it for me at times.

How is that? Mariah has said she's a hip hop fan, so why wouldn't she collaborate with rappers. Anyways if you follow the Billboard charts, much of the Top 10 of the last 20 years or so is hip hop songs or a rap feature, especially in recent years. Even some current country acts are doing songs with rappers or using hip hop beats. So that means songs with rappers are more likely to be a hit today, so not questionable at all. At any rate, Mariah is over the age to get a Top 40 radio hit today. Her best chance is to get a hit single is maybe the adult R&B chart or adult contemporary. So it does not matter what kind of single she releases, it is unlikely to get much Top 40 airplay, if at all. If she does a hook on a song by a currently popular rapper, it'll likely get airplay, rather than the rapper going on her record. That's because she isn't the main artist. Like Snoop Dogg rapping on a song by The Dramatics or Tupac/Dr. Dre on a Roger Troutman song wouldn't have been a hit, but vice versa those songs were hits.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Nicki Minaj didn't help Madonna get a Top 40 hit, it was a hit on the dance chart though. But the other way around, and with Nicki's name in the title instead of Madonna's, it would sure to have gotten a lot of airplay

Agree with you guys.

#Beautiful was a #3 hit for her actually on the r&b charts and went double platinum, and Infinity did #28 on r&b as well .

Adult Contemporary / R&B / Dance radio still embrace her music as much as they can.

The dance version of Eternal went to #1 on the dance charts. She should prob stick to those formats at this point if she looking for hits, but now and days the more real you are with your music the more critical recognition you get, but since she's such a diva now...I dont see no Kasami Washington like collabos happening lol.

R&B is the people played on hip hop stations like Chris Brown & Rihanna. The format for veterans like Mariah is "adult R&B". Charlie Wilson's new stuff has been popular there for years, sometimes to the point of being overplayed. Even adult R&B stations play old rap songs like Kurtis Blow up to around So Fresh, So Clean by OutKast. I've heard the Bruno Mars/Cardi B song played there too. Adult R&B doesn't play newer rappers on their own, except maybe when Childish Gambino sings.

nod
I like those stations, at least it is not cluttered with rap. Save that for the hip hop only chart. You are right Charlie has been hot there, and people like to have him on all types of rap songs singing. He def getting his paper. Was suprised to hear him again on Kanye's last album he keeps going uncredited (prob paid on the DL)

Top 40 pop stations play a lot of the same songs as the hip hop only stations. The difference is that Top 40 also plays stuff like Maroon 5 & Meghan Trainor and they've both done songs with rappers. Rap is mainstream pop music in the current era (in the USA). It gets played automatically and doesn't have to crossover like the Fat Boys did in the 1980s or put rock guitars on the songs before pop stations would play it like Run DMC & Beastie Boys. Hip hop being mainstream is how Snoop Dogg can do a cooking show with Martha Stewart and The Roots can be the house band on The Tonight Show when it was Doc Severinsen big band style music when Johnny Carson was the host. Shoop by Salt N Pepa got ressurected by being featured in the Deadpool advertising. The Fresh Prince, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, and others have become successful actors in a way that Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Paul Simon, etc couldn't. The rappers don't have to sing a bunch of songs in a movie like Elvis Presley did to get an audience to watch them.
