Bruce Springsteen's book "Born to Run"
Holy moley is it great! I finished it last night. Man, it is AWESOME!
Bruce is just as good a storyteller on the written page as he is in song. And he had me laughing at something about every fifth page.
The first 200 pages chronicle his life before he signed with Columbia and released his first album. Man! Did he have an interesting first 20 years! It's worth reading the first 200 pages, no matter if you're a Springsteen fan or not. The guy did EVERYTHING you can possibly imagine when it came to rock and roll. And he lived EVERYWHERE except in a house.
Heck, he had never had a bank account, or paid income taxes, or had a permanent address until they paid him for his first record. Talk about the ultimate gypsy!
The 371 pages after his early life are pretty cool too. Bruce handles every subject you can think of, and handles them well.
You HAVE to read his stories about Frank Sinatra, and about the time he sat in with the Rolling Stones in rehearsal. So cool!
