"Leave Me Alone" was a bonus track on the 'Bad' CD. I had the vinyl so I never heard the song until the video came out.

i have the vinyl ( = original) as well, so it's not really on the album. Much like 'into the groove' by Madonna.

Which is the problem of today, with no physical singles if people like one song they can just buy that and if enough do, it charts well enough, when someone says the new single from so and so today, I am like NO ITS NOT.

Well going by that, then technically nothing today is a single or maybe a very few that are released as a 45 that costs $8. Do you consider it a single if it has a music video? Then how about that Lemonade album by Beyoncé. Decades ago, not all singles that had a physical 45 to buy got radio airplay. The Top 10 chart was mainly based on airplay & sales of 45s. Radio would play songs that weren't singles like Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder. It only charted on the adult contemporary chart in Billboard, but it did chart. Some of the songs on the AOR chart was also album tracks.

Since when? Stairway To Heaven was never a single, yet it's probably Led Zeppelin's most popular song. There's many songs that was a single to buy but got no radio play, so didn't chart. What if a song is only released as a 12" maxi single like Rapper's Delight, but not as a 45. The Hot 100 generally didn't track maxi singles but Rapper's Delight was so popular it made the Top 30. There was a separate dance chart for maxis. On Beatles 45 both the A & B side of a 45 often made the chart because of airplay. Billboard had no idea if people bought a 45 because of the A or B side of singles by The Beatles, so couldn't go from sales only. Some songs the DJ played the B side instead of the A side. That's how Kung Fu Fighting became a hit. Also different countries sometimes released different songs from the same album. Liberian Girl by Michael Jackson was not released as a single in the US, but it was in some other countries. Randy Scouse Git by The Monkees wasn't a single in the US either, but got released in the UK as Alternate Title, because apparently the original title was offensive for the BBC.

Maybe less so by this time, but most very early rap songs were 12" only. The songs were generally too long to fit on a 7" 45. Most hip hop acts then didn't have albums either, singles only.
