New From Maxwell: ''We Never Saw It Coming''

After teasing a new song & video on social media the past week, Maxwell decides to come through and share a new single called “We Never Saw It Coming,” which is a slow-burning ballad.

I like the song, he’s always done these sort of haunting ballads really well I.e W/as my girl, Know These Things. Not entirely convinced about him tackling social commentary but I’ll be interesting to see If it’s just for this song or over a whole album.

I don't think this is from "Night", possibly just a political statement.

It would be ironic as the lead single for blacksummer'sNIGHT since there seems to be a wide unknown berth between the trilogy that has lost its appeal.

I agree with you about it being a political statement and probably a stand-alone release. It reminds me of when George Michael released "The Grave", a Don MacLean cover, as a protest to the war in Iraq.

"eye don’t really care so much what people say about me because it is a reflection of who they r."

The song is from an upcoming project called The Glass House. In the Tidal-exclusive video for "We Never Saw it Coming", Maxwell and his family see a nuclear mushroom cloud rising slowly above skyscrapers in the distance.

Glad it's not a Tidal exclusive anymore.

Could it be a reaction to Puerto Rico's desolation from Hurricane Maria, and the Federal government's subsequent lack of support (https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/08/us/puerto-rico-disaster-relief.html)?

^It's possible. I'm pretty sure this is not from the "Night" album.

I was hoping "Night" would be out this Summer. Where did you see he's debuting new songs? I only read that the "Embrya" 20th anniversary album reissue is coming this Fall.

Thanks. Reminds me of Reuinion. Or Lonelys the Only Company. Haunting and great. I hope this is the lead single from the last in the trilogy.

I liked the original idea of the Trilogy albumb to be released every yr. I thought he had 3 complete albums all ready but it appears he's having to hit the studio and record them whenever he wants. For example I dont think blackSUMMERSnight and blacksummersNIGHT existed at the time BLACKsummersnight was released. It would be best if one were to do Trilovy album they should make sure he has completed all 3 before releasing the first one.
