P-Funk at Ft Wayne July 12

Band preformed a damn near 3 hour set that can only be described as phenomenal. I don't know if it was because this was the second show back in the states from Europe or what but something definitely got into them.

I had a strange foreboding going into the set. Smaller market, show got next to no press, Thursday night. The funkateers packed the house nonetheless. All of this added up to one thing: guerilla funk. Some underground type Thang.

Band came with power and style and blew off the roof. I was especially impressed by the newer arrangements on some old classics and the performance of 4 tracks from the Medicaid album. Psychotropic and Type Two were very good.

So,there is a lot of mixed messages here about his current lineup, show etc. let me tell you, GC was unfunkwitable the other night. And I've seen him over 100 times, this ranks right up there with some classic sets.

I haven't seen him as often as you (something between 10 and 20 times) but I thought I would catch his final tour, so I went to Hilversum last month. I didn't find it as impressive as it used to be. Lots of room for the young kids in the band, most of whom I don't know and with the old stuff, I was like, yeah, been there done that. And I miss the crazy costumes! The acrobatic Sir Nose was the only one providing some theatrics. Also, it didn't help that I had to leave early, just as they started I'm Gonna Make You Sick (which I did enjoy) to catch the last train. Two years ago in Rotterdam, I still had a smile on my face the next day. This time I didn't. But, I'm glad I saw him one final time.

All I can tell you is he blew the roof off Ft Wayne Indiana. And I was there for the epic 4 hour marathon gigs in the 1990's. Last Thursday night was one of the best I've seen.
Byrd has started playing both Maggot Brain and Knee Deep in his own style and it was that other chyt.

He's coming to Lexington next month. I'll have to catch him one last time.

Man go see ‘em. I saw them for the second time in less than a week at an outdoor thang in Dayton last night. Just like the old days. One of the highlights was Mama Told Me. The stuff Lige and Benzel did with the rhythm section was crazy.

I wish I hadn't been out of town in May... I would love to see P-Funk one last time. They put on a great three and a half hour show last fall. George was re-energized at the end.

I'm gonna see them at the Old School Funk Fest in September. They are on the bill with several other acts (Ohio Players,Brick, etc) which means they probably won't do a full complete 3-hour set,but it'll be alot of fun anyway smile Last time to see George before he retires next year!

Really digging "Higher" off the new album this morning... Other good stuff, too (minus a couple of rap tunes).
