Outkast influenced by Prince?

I had been listening to Outkast's Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below album and it sounds a little Prince-esque to me.

Any thoughts?

Wrong forum. Plus seriously: you want to discuss this yet don't seem to know any other artists who might have had an influence on that album? Did you even bother to read anything about it? Have you listened to any other Outkast album?

A little? Prince’s influence is all over “The Love Below”. biggrin

(I’m not sure why Bart is so angry.)

Andre 3000 is all you need as evidence for how Prince influenced Outkast.

You really don't get the idea of "discussion", do you?

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

You know that Dre 3K named his son Seven, right? He can hardly get through an interview without mentioning Prince. Much of his work is Prince inspired.

I remember André being interviewed on the radio back in 2004 when he was here on a promotional tour here in Australia and he was asked where his son got his name from. André's exact words were: "Actually, his mother." I knew instantly that he was referring to Erykah Badu. So, I doubt their son's name had anything to do with Prince, but I could be wrong. That said, though it's quite obvious that OutKast are Prince influenced and they never denied it, either.

No need to be confrontational. Late 90s/ early 00s Hip Hop isn't my cup of tea (dance is my cup of tea), but the Outkast album Speakerboxxx/ Love Below is something I did like - the reason being it sounds Princesque or dancey to me.

I'm not into the whole Missy Elliot crowd or anything remotely related to it, so I wouldn't have a clue about who else inspired Outkast's album. As a dance-orientated listener, I take the album the way I want it, based on my interests.

Oh, and I haven't listened to any other Outkast album (although I'm aware of the "Ms Jackson" song from 2000).

They are both huge fans, which is why he agreed to her idea. I got the story from an interview as well.
