VOTE: Michael Jackson’s Greatest Short Films (The Definitive List)

Michael Jackson is the undisputed King of Pop. His songs, his clothing, his performances, his dancing are all groundbreaking. However, it’s quite possible that his most innovative territory was the art of the music video (or “short film” as he referred to them). With June 25th coming up next month, I’d like to have your help in ranking his mini-movies in order of greatness.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

It wasn't meant as an affirmation.

Top 5:

1) Ghosts (Possibly his most personal yet overlooked short-film. It was his artistic, re-imagined reply to how Sneddon had "invaded" Neverland in 1993)

2) Earth Song (MJ was "green" before being green was trendy. Also quite possibly the most interesting piece of music he has written. Masterpiece. A song that the USA radio did not know what to do with. IT did not fit any radio format. Still it was huge everywhere else)

3) Smooth Criminal (Epic. I just saw an article today written about the anti-gravity lean)

4) Stranger In Moscow (Possibly his most cinematic video. You can just pause it at any second and you'd get an amazing photo)

5) Thriller (Not a huge fan of the song. But it is his most iconic video)

Honorable mention:

They Dont Care About Us (Because it's my favorite song of his. Possibly one of the greatest protest songs ever written. Also it's his 2nd most watched video on Youtube (after Thriller). His message found relevancy and popularity outside of his fanbase after he died. The song was considered controversial and was not given any radio airplay in the States at the time of of the album's release.)

Awesome choices! Be sure to click on the link in my original post and vote there since that's where I'll pull the results from.

Isnt a short film something else than a musicvideo? Like Thriller and Ghost (the movie) are short films and Beat It is a music video?
