Mtume Unsung

Anybody else peep this last night. I think a bit was said about Reggie Lucas as well. I also had no idea the P-Funk Horns appeared with with him on Soul Train about 1980.

I manaaged to catch the ep almost by accident. And yes Reggie Lucas was mentioned as a musical collaborator with Mtume. Looks like Tawatha has lost some weight and managed to keep it off during the years since the group broke up. I remember her being a bit more curvy during the Mtume (the group) years.

Haven't watched it yet? Is the episode any good or is it worth skipping?

I personally loved what Mtume said at the beginning of that episode when he said about music/sampling that an artist having their own sound is paramount and that you can't forge forward by looking backwards.....

He's tellin the truth.....

and what he said just reinforces the notion that it's always possible to make something of your own if you put the time and effort into it, anything is possible.

Someone out there will finally take heed to those words of wisdom and create a sound of their own and have a career for the ages.......

It is true though because "Juicy Fruit" is really a drum machine and a keyboard that anyone could buy, but he played those drum buttons live and that beat was sampled for his feel, his sound, his stamp.

One reason pop music today sounds like shit is because it is all quantized to death (snapped to a time grid) - drums and synths.

ANYWHERE I CAN WATCH IT ONLINE? The TVOne website had full episodes at one point, and I caught up on a bunch.

Tawatha aged backwards love and I’m so excited to see a picture of “Hot Tea” heard so much about them when I was having my Angela Winbush phase. I wonder if they recorded any music though hmmm Angela & Tawatha would sound like butter & honey together.
