NEW CHROMEO ALBUM - HEAD OVER HEALS Anybody looking for a great modern funk album can do a lot worse than checking out Chromeo's new album, titled 'Head Over Heals', which is out today. I've had a few days to digest the album and I can safely say that it's their best yet. It's a slight departure from their previous albums in that it features more live instruments than before but the end result is a much funkier sound that still has that same Chromeo feel to it.
If you're still on the fence about it, check out the song "Bad Decision" and try not to feel the funk. Or have a listen to the song "Must've Been", which features The Time's Jesse Johnson on guitar.
Prince may have passed away and George Clinton may be retiring next year but funk is very much alive in 2018. |

Thanks for the tip. First time I've heard of them. Loving the album so far |

Thanks for the tip. First time I've heard of them. Loving the album so far If you like this you'll probably like the band Tuxedo. Well, I say "band", it's just two guys. They've got two albums out, one called Tuxedo and the other called Tuxedo II. More old school style funk than Chromeo but I actually prefer that. Tuxedo have also recently released a new single called "Shy" featuring Zapp. So hopefully "Tuxedo III" is on the way! |

WHAT?! How have you missed them over the years? I've been listening to Chromeo for a good decade at least. They don't have a particularly long catalog, so it is worth going back and listening to their music. They are huge Prince fans, as well as 70's and 80's funk/soul/R&B fans. It shows in their music. They take it funk to a new modern level.
They joke that they are the first successful Jew & Arab partnership.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

I’m really impressed with the guest features on this. DRAM completely makes Must Have Been, the Amber Mark duet is fantastic and The Dream does his thing on Bedroom Calling Pt 2. Even Steflon Don and French Montana sound good on Don’t Sleep! Good to hear an album where the guests actually add something rather than just being tracked on.
I definitely agree with EmmaMcG, the album is very similar to Tuxedo. I’ve always thought Dave 1 (Chromeo singer) and Mayer Hawthorne (Tuxedo signer) have been a bit too similar for their own good but they have now more or less morphed into the same person! Same vocal style and same toungue in cheek lyrics. But I think both are great so it’s not really a problem to me! |

Hmm, it's kinda underwhelming on the first listen. I can't be the only one?
Not spotting the type of super catchy hooks and varied production styles from track to track as on their earlier albums. |

I think it's one that will grow on me. I really like a couple of the songs and that's a good start. |

And while you're waiting for the next one you can check out similar artists like Tuxedo and Cool Million. |
