Janelle Morae's Make Me Feel - no mention of Prince

I'm sure I read an interview with Janelle where she stated that Prince had contributed to Make Me Feel on her new album Dirty Computer. The album came out this week but there is no mention of Prince in the credits to this song. Did I imagine the interview I read with her?

I think she meant more that his vibe was in it. It was his DJ who said he came up with the keyboard part ( which doesn't make sense, it's one note).

Not totally true. She wasn't just channeling Prince. He was helping her. She's said that much. And this article says he was helping her on the album.

Prince’s DJ, Lenka Paris, let slip in a since deleted Facebook post that she instantly recognized the “Make Me Feel” synth line as a Prince creation. Some time ago, she was playing a party for Prince when he put on a new groove on which he’d been working. “It was futuristic and so so good,” Paris wrote. “Last night I hear Janelle Monae’s new song. As soon as the synth came in, I went, ‘Oh shit! That’s it!’ He gave that to her.

Paris also pointed to Monáe’s recent interview with BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac in which she said, “Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds. I really miss him, it’s hard for me to talk about him.” She echoed those sentiments in a feature for The Guardian, saying she and Prince had been “collecting sounds” for Dirty Computer before he died.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I hung out with Lenka for a couple of hours in Minneapolis last month. She told me the full story in much more detail, about how it was a private party with Prince, Janelle and a handful of others that she was asked to DJ, and that Prince came over to her DJ booth with a CD of his new grooves and started playing them, and that was one of them.

The song oozes Prince. She didn't have to namecheck him. Even though she has publicly credted him.

Yeah, I think the credits say something like "Based on a groove by Prince" or similar.

The only mention he gets in the entire booklet is in the thanks section, he isn't mentioned in the credits for any of the songs at all

From her interviews she said he was helping her collecting sounds for the album. She added in one of them he wasn't able to hear the final version of make me feel.
