My Aunts husband is turkish and so we grew up knowing german and turkish culture. So when there were partys we'd listen to a lot of turkish music, but this guy was played very often and he became one of my favourite artists, not only because of the music, he was also the first turkish artist to wear make up and earrings, he breaks the gender barriers and that is what makes him so interesting to me. He also has some english lyrics:

If you mean music outside the U.S. (because Prince is foreign to people in Ireland or Germany or Australia, etc):

I love Tarkan. "Just Like That", "Bounce", "Start The Fire", "Mine". I love that shit.

Confection is an Aussie duo that who have a deep love of Prince. They use the same keyboards and instruments that Prince & The Time used to make pop/soul music. They're so good. They throw in the occasional cover too (no Prince so far). Private Conversations is fun, but I really love their self-titled 2007 album. They remind me of Chromeo, but with more of a MPLS slant. Although when you listen to the 2007 album, you'll hear so much good 80s R&B type stuff, including later 80s R&B (like Lisa Lisa, Full Force, etc). It's new but familiar.

Sneaky Sound System is another down under band whose pop sensibilities I've enjoyed greatly. They have a strong 80's synth vibe to their music.

My favourite foreign artist? Well, Prince. I'm in Britain and he's an American artist so that's foreign from where I stand.

But perhaps instead you mean favourite foreign language artist (ie those recording in a language other than English)?

If so then I'll answer Kraftwerk. I know that several of their albums and singles were released both in English and German but the German language versions sound very cool.
