TIDAL accused of faking Beyonce and Kanye's streams TIDAL accused of deliberately faking Kanye West and Beyoncé streaming numbers
Why am I not surprised? | |

They used to do this with physical copies. Buy a bunch of copies of their own stuff just so you could see the album have a great chart placement. Now all you have to do is fudge the numbers at a company you OWN because you wouldn't let it stream anywhere else? No one could say "hmm no one is listening to it here at Pandora" or wherever.

I always thought it was funny those numbers on a streaming platform that was brand new to a lot of people. How many subscribers they got?

Now that I think about it, it is kinda strange how almost every big name with a new release breaks streaming records. And of course as the article pointed out, this was done at the expense of other (less known) artists' success. The streaming era is all about the rich getting richer and this is further proof of that. At least with the fudging of physical albums back in the day, the label at least purchased the extra copies and even then, newer artists still had a chance at achieving varying degrees of success. Now, labels and services are so busy promoting and showcasing the upper class, it's actually keeping acts on the lower end of the spectrum in their place. The industry today is pretty much a caste system.

I know streaming is where it is now, but sorry, when someone says my song has streamed 5 million times or whatever it’s such a useless stat to me, it’s like saying 5 million people picked up my cd and looked at it, they didn’t buy it but they picked up and were curious. This generation is so starved for empty praise, clicks, likes, streams etc.... Pretty much how I feel too.I don't care how much things have changed, streaming will never be a real replacement for sales.
