New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest line-up today

I'm going. Locals discount day. Check out the closers - how can I see Toots & the Maytals, Archie Shepp and The Five Blind Boys of Alabama all at the same time?

Congo Square Stage lineup looks tight alllll day! Enjoy! I'd be torn between the Nevilles and Preservation - what a great decision for one to have to make though. Each day has some really outstanding acts!

Yep. There were a lot of people camped out there early with the blankets, chairs and kids. I cruised around and managed to catch quite a few acts. A few happy accidents, Susan Cowsill was great as usual, and right next to the Oyster Bar in the shade with chairs. Wandered into the jazz tent for Terrance Martin, young cat from CA who I knew nothing about, with a quartet that blew me away. The bass player was MonoNeon so there's my Prince connection! Dude is bad azz.

Some of the NOLA acts I had to skip hoping to see them here another time. Yeah yer right, choosing between Cyril Neville et al and Preservation Hall is just not fair. I met 2 guys from Austrailia on the way out after Archie Shepp who were so happy. He is 86, what a voice - what vanishing style, talent and grace. Got to see Toots do Pressure Drop & Funky Kingston. Sweet.

He was there 2014. But he is in town, had a gig at the Jazz Museum/Old Mint in the quarter last night. Could come as featured players of their friends in the fest, that happens a lot. Some NOLA musicians are touring right now, especially in Europe where they LOVE New Orleans music. They invite a bunch of good people and have their own mini-fest.

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler did an impromptu performance of Walk This Way ahead of the band's headlining performance that was covered by TMZ.

I lived in New Orleans for several years and the Jazz Festival was by far my favorite event. There is nothing like it, as the music is great while also embracing New Orleans culture! For those lucky to go this year, Enjoy!

Who should headline the 50th Jazz Fest: Beyonce, Paul McCartney, ABBA, the Stones?

I vote The Stones. Bookend concerts. Akron Rubber Bowl, 1972 - New Orleans Jazz Fest, 2019.
Exile on Main Street tour with Stevie Wonder as the opening act will be impossible to match but what a thrill.
