Taylor Swift covers Earth Wind & Fire and it’s as bad as you expect it would be This is so wrong. I have to go listen to the original to wash out my ears. https://thegrapevine.ther...1825231439 Paisley Park is in your heart

Agreed. She slowed it down, which suited her better because I think if she had done it fast like the original it probably would've been REALLY bad, LOL. Had to laugh at the pic of P kicking KK off the stage though, priceless!! Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above~

The nice statement to give is it's OK. No, September is an ensemble song meant to be sung by a group, not a solo artist. The damage is done, but I feel sorry for those who would prefer her version over the original, it's safe to say your taste in music is AWFUL, you should be ashamed. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Yeah I agree. Not a fan of Taylor Swift but I'm pleasantly surprised with the production, they kept the "fall" mood going, which is totally unlike the original. Still, I'll say this is a nice tribute.

Its not amazing, but not as bad as people are saying here. Got a nice flow, i like it when artist take another take on a song. The org has a list of artists they trash no matter what.

^And most of them are young women...
Anyway, about this song, in the article somebody said that she "Pat Boone'd" it and I think that's an excellent description. [Edited 4/14/18 7:23am]

I heard there are banjos on it. BANJOS!!! On a EWF classic??? I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

The banjo originated in Africa though, the same as the thumb piano used on EWF songs. Black people in the US mostly abandoned banjos and country/bluegrass performers picked it up. So like rock n roll, it became considered a white people thing. In the 1920s there were black acts still using banjos on records and vaudville. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

If EWF had wanted Banjos...there'd have been Banjos. There were NO BANJOS! If she should win a Grammy for that song, I hope Maurice White's ghost Kanyes her ass. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

So going by this comment, if Pete Seeger wanted his song to to have instruments & doo wop style vocals, he would have made it that way You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I don't remember The Beatles having any scat vocals You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. The music here doesn't sound like the Bread original either You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Mickey D.'s comments above are cute. Of course, however, there was a time when Black Americans' music was the only bit of culture beyond the verbal histories and farming and craft knowledge, that they had to call their own. So I think that some people could be a tad understanding when other people take over the natives' music and add elements that are not universally approved amongst the diaspora. > However, again, If you're delving into the artistic challenge of reinventing a song people just might get into it, and whatcha goin' do? > Taylor Swift fans may enjoy a Prince cover song, and it will put cash into the NPG Publishing Company's coffers. Not bad for the Prince camp. > At any rate, it's a hard thing to suppress a strong song.

I've seen some Michael Jackson fans like the Chris Cornell version of Billie Jean and it sounds nothing like the original, but the same people dislike Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm and it sounds similar to Mike's version. There was someone on American Idol who did the Chris Cornell arrangement and a lot of people saw that. Not mad at all she attempted to cover the song but it stinks for sure. Don't laugh at my funk

It's not that bad. It's just a different take on the song. Sort of pop, rock and a little country, instead of the pop R&B of the original. I think it's good for what it is. She just changed the genre of the song. If she had did a version of the song, based on the original arrangement and butcherd it, then I can see people saying that it's bad.
