The funny thing is if you read the credits you will see everyone who sued namechecked one way or another.

Word? So she named checked as in gave shoutouts to such and such but didn't give proper credit in the liner notes? I don't remember...
So, it goes like this. You got her face etched on the desk top on the front cover, you flip it over to see the tracklist. Every track is listed and some are marked with symbols that bring you to the legend at the bottom.
It says PRODUCED, WRITTEN, ARRANGED, and PERFORMED by Lauryn Hill. (Sound familiar? )
Then below that, the tracks with symbols will say: "Co-Produced by Che Guevera" (points to To Zion) "With additional production by Vada Nobles" (points to Lost Ones and I recall her being the most vocal about this lawsuit when I have only ever heard of her from this project ) "With additional contribution by James Poyser" (points to Superstar and everyone should know from D'Angelo and Erykah Badu schitt) "With additional musical contribution by Tejumold Newton" (points to the final track The Miseducation...) "With additional lyrical contribution by Johari Newton" (points to Superstar and Everything Is Everything)
Now... my people... that is before you ever crack the plastic on the album. This is on the very back of the album! The liner notes GO THE FUCK IN on credits, because John Legend is credited for playing piano when he was John Stephens, etc!
So, I honestly never understood what these musicians were talking about REALLY. The only thing that one of the male Fugees, either Wyclef or Pras, said was they know that Lauryn Hill could not work an MPC station, so in a hip hop sense of "production" the credit does not make sense. And a lot of these instrumentals were produced like hip hop tracks, programmed.
I think the industry wanted a black super hero just like Prince who could say "PRODUCED, WRITTEN, ARRANGED, AND PERFORMED BY" but as her Unplugged album showed you, she doesn't really have the (guitar) chops to make an album like a Stevie Wonder or a Prince. Maybe she just paid them all for session work while she sang or beatboxed the parts she wanted. That still counts as production. Michael Jackson didn't play all his parts and neither did Quincy.
Yeah but don't bite the hand that feeds you. Lauryn Hill gave a lot of new people a big industry opportunity here. They aren't supposed to send her a fat invoice for it. They are supposed to add it to their resume and ask the next act for their budget (should they be in demand).

I think its a little too late now. L-Boogie have developed a disdain against the industry & its politics, thats the reason why we won't hear a new album.

20th Anniverary of being washed up? Not interested. In 20 years, she could have made ten more albums. Boring, passe, however u wanna coin it. Somehow, a Stacy Lattisaw tour would be more interesting than Lauryn (over the) Hill. Ain't hatin'. Just reLATIN'.
It is sad to me how her career never really developed the way it could have. She should have at least three or four classic albums in her catalog! The talent was definitely there

Oh yeah I mean 20 years ago, they should have "took the L" whatever it was, and just kept grinding with the accomplishment under their belt.
She is really milking every last squirt from that album. Do u think she will do like album versions or the royalty free turn my volume up stuff she's been doing for the last decade. Real friends warn friends to bring sudoku and a lawn chair for the wait.
... holy smokes! U took my comment!!! Dangit! Lol 😶 😁

TRUTH! U want a career in Performing (in this case recording), then suck it up, work hard, deal with your demons out of the public eye or with your shrink and either KEEP your fanbase or LOSE your fanbase. Selfish on her part 2 her fans and perhaps leave recording and go into acting again. The latter seems to resonate MORE with her apparently. Joi, Erykah and Jill have already beat her 10x around the track. It's been 20 yrs. She didn't get her shit 2gether. She HAD her moment and now she doesn't have it anymore. Sad, yes, but she's responsible 4 her own destiny and if this is her destiny, then she can't think very highly of herself; all the what could have been recorded Neo-Soul MASTERpieces, completely wasted. Her career is down to MINUTES now. Then comes seconds. After THAT, she's a "Who????" MMp.

It really WAS, Soul. So pathetic. A talent that began with so much potential and a vibrato that straight outta Church, that has hung 20 yrs too long in a "who cares" mindset. Now, no one does. Remaining under contract with CBS and not releasing product is disrespectful 2ward the label that employs her when she refuses 2 do any work. It should let her go. In the real world, she'd've been fired when there was no 3rd album. She's a singer from two decades ago whose Neo-Soul debut went quadrupleplatinum. By todays standards in the industry, that number means squat. Adele's music is certified Double Diamond within weeks of its release from all the Pre-orders. Hill, won't even go Gold. None of the Neo-Soul folk go Gold anymore, but at least they put the work in and do what artists are supposed to do, which is to keep their fanbase nourished. Epic fail. Sendin' luv 2 ya, brutha. <3

I don't know, maybe she was sincere about needing to step away from the industry for awhile. Being a mother to her kids doesn't jibe with "20th anniversary of being washed up". Hell, even Alicia Keys said she had to take some time off and I think she spent some time in Egypt.

Nope, even D'Anglelo didn't take that long...

I am very tempted to go see her live again. My one & only experience of seeing her live was at The Indigo2 in London in 2012. It was a very disappointing show to say the least. There were sound issues & her voice was hoarse despite it being a one off show. It was a shock to see her perform drastically different versions of her own material. At times it was difficult to listen to her butcher her music. There were also three or four Marley covers which highlighted her lack of back catalog. At one stage she was in the middle of two lead guitarists having a heavy metal type face off. This went on for ages & fans had their fingers in their ears. My friends all laughed at the end because we were hoping to be blown away by her obvious talent but ended up feeling we’d been slapped around the face by a wet fish!! A couple of years later she performed two shows at Brixton Academy. I did not attend as was working. Many friends attended & they all said the shows were just as appalling. However... I really really love the Miseducation album & surely she couldn’t fuck up this 20th anniversary tour with heavy rock or sped up versions??? I’ve just had D’angelo cancel three shows on me so am feeling a bit raw. No doubt after seeing George Clinton, Lenny Kravitz & Bilal this coming month will restore my faith in artists who respect their fan base. All of this highlight how very lucky we were to have had P for as long as we did. His loss to live music performance is immeasurable. 💜

Her dates in the UK are all at the type of big, soulless arenas I don't like. Add in the possibility of a 3-hour wait and think I'll pass. She wasn't even that great live when I saw her at the time of Miseducation.
