Michael Jackson was NOT in any way the same kind of musician that Prince was, and most of this
post is just silly, especially how you compare the differences in Prince and Michael Jackson's sense
of musicianship (living and breathing music, love/hate relationship with music, etc.)

That font said musical not musician. Pull the drawers out ya ass

Would you say that musicians are musical? Of course they are; to suggest otherwise is rather
silly.

What you’re trying to imply is that MJ isn’t musical which is false and he did play instruments.

Tired of the MJ cult. Sucka didn't even write dat many tunes.

Tired of the MJ cult? The same can be said of the Prince cult? Yeah, I know that this is a Prince board. However, I am tired of the Prince cult mentality that Michael was Only a singer and dancer. It’s as if this cult mentality of Prince fans don’t even want to give Michael credit for writing some of the most popular and well-known songs EVER. It’s arrogant, uninformed and hateful to not acknowledge that. It doesn’t take anything away from Prince’s legacy and talent to acknowledge that Michael was not only a singer and dancer, he was a songwriter, producer, choreographer, humanitarian, philanthropist and GLOBAL megastar. Nothing is ever going to change that FACT. Why does it always have to be competition when it comes to BLACK musicians/artists? It makes me sick every time we do this with Michael and Prince, Beyonce and Janet, etc. Why can’t we just enjoy them for who they are and their music? DAMN!!!

nod Admitting Michael was a very gifted writer and arranger doesnt make Prince any less talented. Why fans feel threatened (no pun intended) is beyond my understanding. It's not 1984 anymore.

Like purple05 said there's room for all

Even in 1984 there was no need for it. Look at it this way, if literally everybody had Prince's skill set, Prince wouldn't be that special but him being one of a very very few to be a jack of all trades in music is what helped make him stand out. Likewise with Michael. Nobody would complain if there were more musicians like Prince skill-wise but if there were, that would bring down the uniqueness and variety by a some hairs.

Bottom line, there's no need for Michael to be like Prince. He was excellent as a singer and a dancer but that doesn't mean That's all he had to offer and people who still act like MJ never wrote any of his own music come off as insecure, arrogant and flat out ignorant. You may not be a fan of the guy but the dude was more talented than what we've even seen. However, that takes absolutely nothing away from the monstrous amount of talent Prince had.

1984 was perfect the way it was with the greatest dancer in the world and biggest rock star on the planet both on top simultaneously. I'd hate to imagine that year any way other than that.

Exactly. I’ve never understood why Prince fans feel so “threatened” by Michael or Michael’s fans. The bottomline is that I and many other MJ fans have ever felt threatened by Prince or his talent or legacy. I wonder why we don’t feel threatened but Prince fans do. No one cares if you like Michael or not, it’s not going to change Michael’s legacy or fans’ minds.
