RIP Dennis Edwards of the Temptations

Dennis Edwards, who joined the Temptations in 1968 and sang on a string of the group's hits including "I Can't Get Next to You," "Ball of Confusion" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" in an initial tenure that stretched to 1977, has died. His family confirmed the news to CBS News, saying he was in Chicago at the time of his death, though did not disclose a cause of death. He was 74.

Arguably this is one of his finest vocal performances ever on this melancholy heartbreaker from 1975.

Rest in peace, Dennis.

Dennis Edwards was brilliant. His voice was like none other. At the time he'd join the Temps, it couldn't of been more a perfect timing. His approach to many of the group's signature hits as produced by Norman Whitfield was all a perfect fit. Not to mention, Edwards' stellar performances on such solo standout numbers as "Coolin' Out," "You're My Aphrodisiac," and of course, the ever popular, oft-sampled "Don't Look Any Further" are forever memorable and will continuously stand the test of time. Edwards will be missed. May the legacy live on!!

This vocal performance is great, but I've always felt that his work on the actual track "A Song For You" was his greatest. Nevertheless, I've always loved his voice...that of a masculine, deep and gruffy sound. He surely will be missed. pray

It's crazy how just about every member of the Tempts is dead. Now Dennis is on that list sad

R.I.P. to him. Severely underrated vocalist.

he had VERY big shoes to fill when he replaced a legend in David Ruffin, and The Temptations never looked back or skipped a beat...
