U2 40th Anniversary as a band...

...whether you like these guys or not, it's a real reason to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. They put out some great music in those 40 years and are still a band! smile I'm looking forward to their new tour...

Okay, the tree icon doesn't work anymore so all I can post is a link to the photo... sigh

Probably the best band of the last 40 years, might not be the most technically gifted, but had the best ears imo
We're here, might as well get into it.

True ... even though their last couple of albums have been completely bland. Just wish Bono wasn't such a self-important douche.

More news to make me feel old :grandpa:but grateful for 40 years of U2 music headbang. I started with them right after they released their first LP Boy. Fell in love with that one and several subsequent releases.

Achtung Baby is one of my favorite albums of all time and they know how to deliver a great show.

Never really got into their work after that album. Still, they’re one of the last great acts that are still doing it.

I'm from the times that U2 was the big thing, from their first continental european concert to Achtung Baby.

The first 4 albums was our thing here. But in retrospective, their mega-superstar work was limited in time to Joshua Tree up to A. Baby. Short span. Add a few really great singles from earlier albums, and possibly the best live-album done by any band (Under a blood red sky) - yet not enough in my book to declare them the best group of the last 40 years.

Their big concurrents of the good times, Simple Minds, come out better with time. Even Coldplay comes out better after all. And handfuls of other bands such as Chili Peppers etc.
Bottom line: imo U2 had very strong individual songs, but very few whole albums front-to-back that are fully enjoyable. To me only that live album, and The Unforgettable Fire.
