Father Figure by George Michael - actually most of the Faith album.

very true, i remember rolling stone criticizing prince for losing his edge and saying that a "flaccid talent" like george micheal was beating him on the charts using his own style with I want your sex. in those days, no one had respect for george. George rubbed me the wrong way when they said he dissed Prince, i thought it was stupid after you done ripped off the dude you wanna diss him.

Yes - I also read this was part of the inspiration for the Black Album - because critics were saying what you state above...read that somewhere back in the day.

funny thing is Prince must have had access to some real distant reviews because most of the ones i got ahold of (rolling stone, spin, usa today etc.., ) were positive. I don't remember anyone saying, as prince put it in the lovesexy concert program, that he was "no longer glam". In fact, SOTT is regarded by some people as his zenith. I never understood his point really. Maybe it was directed towards the black audience because the black album was funkier than what he was doing at the time, but i really don't know. Seemed our guy was more sensitive than he let on though.

Thank you very much.

I did all the instruments (synths, guitars, base, vocals, drum programming). The drum machine
I used was in Reason and then I used Cubase for some stuff too. I was able to tweak presets to
make them sound like the Linn drum. But, there is now a patch for that machine here.

Your song was very adventurous - good lord and good work! I always appreciate Orgers who put
themselves out there with their art. People don't realize how much hard work goes into music
composition and music production. Keep at it, man.

Oh, sane Sinéad, cool.

Thank God for her solo career, what a copycat this guy: even the band's name!

By the way, the one below smells like Prince's spirit.
Like a letter to Prince, even.

Gosh, what a singer. Imagine the duets if those two would have gotten along well.

Throw in most of "The Love Below" album, for good measure.
I mean he adds his own Dre character, but Prince is all over the album,
the production, the thematics. It's all SOTT.

i think i might have listened to the album in full a couple times, unfortunately. the prince influence was pretty clear to me on my favorites of theirs. the cheesy ass synth licks on hey ya were pure prince.

I'm not sure if I posted it correctly? Anyway, it's a track by Jane Child called "Mr. Jones"...it has that hauntingly funky vibe to it that he does so well..."Something In The Water", "The Future" etc.

The Love Below is a really good album.
The kind you spend a month with on heavy rotation.
Give it a try.

It's maybe the best homage to 1986 Prince there is.
It's not plagiarism, it's a 21st century version of it.
"Happy Valentine's Day" is fantastic, "She Lives In My Lap" as well.
Headphones recommended, it's like SOTT in augmented reality.
