The Boys Appreciation Thread

After last's Unsung episode, I'm gonna try this once again. Let's pay tribute to Khiry, Hakim, Tajh and Bilal Abdul Samad better known as The Boys. Post pics, vids, etc. and no bashing. BTW, this year marks the 30th anniversary of their debut album, "Messages From The Boys"

The Boys were the TRUTH back in the day. Very talented. I always admired [them] and very much thought how groundbreaking of them to seek and want full creative control of their careers.

lol lol lol They did have a couple of cute tunes on their debut album, though. "Dial My Heart" was a great song for dancing. I don't recall too much after that. I kinda of remember they tried to go a little more hard-core after their first album.? But, I don't think it went over too well.

Scoring three #1 hits was impressive for them. “Dial My Heart” and “Crazy” remain two of my favorites from that era.

I used to like Crazy and Thank U for the funk to an extent but that's about it

I'll admit they haven't made anything that I'd want to go back and revisit but I

will check out their Unsung a bit.

EW&F caught all kinda hell in the media and from fans for that collaboration...in fact, Heritage may be their worst lp ...they had 2 songs with Hammer , 1 song with the Boys, and another one with an incoherent Sly Stone...by then, the once mighty EWF was running on fumes, and trying to chase hits....Maurice was getting sicker, and core members had split

"Dial My Heart" was a fun, little, bubblegum soul jam biggrin excellent production by LA and Face, and the chorus was so damn catchy! I admit,I loved it back in 1988.

That EW&F "Heritage" CD was so bad, I couldn't even give it away! lol I tried selling it online and at local record stores. No one wanted it. I ended up tossing it out.

I actually like about half of the songs on the Heritage album boxed the New Jack Swing vibe on several tracks was irritating, but slower tracks like "Daydreaming","I'm In Love","Anything You Want" and "Welcome" are great."For The Love Of You" would have been perfect if it didn't have that dumb MC Hammer rap on it.Likewise,"Good Time" would sound so much better if Maurice (instead of Sly Stone, who sounds drunk or high, lol) had sang the lead vocal.

yeah, MCHammer ruined "For The Love Of You", the same way Tony M. ruined "Love 2 The 9's"...cosign "Anything You Want" and "Welcome" being hidden gems...

I actually liked most of Heritage. The title track was definitely a weak and awkward collaboration

but great video. I dug the opening track Taking Chances. I'm with you on the slow jams being

the highlight of the album Daydreaming and Anything You Want and For The Love Of You being a

good track but having a lame MC Hammer rap on it just stained it. And if that wasn't enough as much as I love EWF, Hammer really ruined them even more on the lame Wanna Be The Man and the video for it as well. Welcome was a good track too.

I actually enjoyed their "Unsung" episode. I almost forgot they were a late 80's group...I was thinking more mid 90's.....Didn't that other kid group "Another Bad Creation" have a stupid beef with them?

Lucky Charms production is top notch. Babyface and LA were on top of their game at that time.
