Maybe its just me. Of course its not similar, but it has something around the main melody that reminds me of that SlyStone's classic. Try to listen more closely.

On a second thought you might be right. I hear some similarities.

SOTT and Talking Book wouldn't because there are other works from the respective artists that are even more well-thought-of. Like Purple Rain and Songs In The Key Of Life.

In my opinion neither of them are better than the former albums. Perhaps you could make the case about PR being better than SOTT, however SITKOL is not as cohesive sound and lyrical wise as Talkin Book.

Well, SOTT and TB are in my 5, so clearly I agree they're the better albums than PR and SITKOL respectively.

I said PR and SITKOL are more well-thought of, meaning, more people think those albums are the definitive albums from Prince and Stevie, which overshadows the albums you and I think are better.

a top 5 is a personal choice.

Here's my top five:

Prince & The Revolution - Purple Rain

Janet Jackson - Control

MC Lyte - Eyes On This

Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life

Hole - Live Through This

cool

[Edited 2/26/18 12:16pm]

Solid list. Eyes On This doesn't get enough love. Lyte was one of the great MC's of her era.

You Haven't Done Nothin', Living For The City, Jesus Children Of America, Front Line, and of course Superstition, there are definitely some hard hitting edgy funky songs in his discography.

R. Wagner - Der Ring des Nibelungen WWV 86

Sly Stone - Small Talk

Prince - The Rainbow Children

Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk

Great list.

The reason why I don't include classical music in my lists is because there are usually too many
recordings for one piece. So which individual album do you prefer for Wagner and Bach? I mean,
otherwise, my list would be:

Parade - Prince
Brilliant Corners - Monk
Late String Quartets - Beethoven
Die Zauberflote - Mozart
Tristan und Isolde - Wagner

Pretty much yeahthat. NMTB has a couple cool songs but IMHO, the Sex Pistols are highly overrated.

And as far as my top 5, I'm still thinking about it. The only group/Album that i can for sure say that is in my top 5 (besides some Prince albums), is Black Sabbath. And the album is Heaven and Hell.

Mentioned album by Wagner 'The Ring' is seen as one big piece/cycle, so i listen it as individual album. When it comes to recordings of both composers that can vary from Otto Klemperer to Karl Richter etc. But I found myself listening most of Wagner's Ring Cycle by famous Joseph Keilberth in 1955.

I've been thinking about this list for days. I tried doing just 5 but i couldn't. It just didn't feel right within my soul. biggrin Also, i didn't list any Prince. He probably would have taken up the whole thing.

In no particular order...

And i guess if it was a life and death thing and i absolutely could only pick 5, my choices would be Marvin Gaye, Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Black Sabbath, and King Crimson.

His best 5 albums are inferior to Dylan's, Zappa's, Bowie's imo.

Sometimes Stevie forgets harmony and the result is barf

Wow...pretty narrow choices

expected more deep cuts and or misunderstood masterpieces

I'll try initial 5 maybe i would save in a fire
then add another five like the rest of u cheaters

Alice Cooper - Love It To Death
Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballe - Barcelona
Eurythmics - Be Yourself Tonight
Stevie - Journey Through The Secret Life of Plants (just something magical about this one)
Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny

Further cheating list

James Taylor - Greatest Hits
Killing Joke - Pandemonium
Gil Scott Heron -Winter In America (it was hard to narrow down one GSH album)
Faith no More - King For A Day Fool For a Lifetime
Beatles - Revolver (barely edges Rubber Soul)

And if i had an eleven it'd be Black Sabbath - Sabotage or Never Say Die tied with prince (Self Titled?)

So difficult

All you homies posting 172 albums are definitely cheating. The fun part of this thread is
taking all of your favorite 172 albums and condensing it down to five. So, anybody can list
13 of their favorite albums - it takes work and thought and effort to whittle it down to 5!
