Not at all, no one can beat the original, Marvin's take is more dramatioc that it should have been.

The Royalettes. Their version was recorded in 1965. Laura Nyro remade the song in 1971. Then Deniece in 1982.

Deniece's was the first version I heard; but I must say, I have a soft spot for nostalgia and I like the original more.

Aye. She did a kick-@$$ job with the remake. The way the producers and musicians twisted the music to fit the changing times (18 years after the original) was absolutely outstanding.

I like the New Birth version better than Perry Como's

It's a cool cover but it's more or less the same as the version on Stop Making Sense which was recorded around the same time, I wonder did either version influence the other or did they just arrive at the same place?
