Enjoy the show, its the best band he had since the JBs. However, since JB arranged all the tunes to be played uptempo, you wont get to hear too much real funk. But they still sound tight, and in spite of his 73 years he's still a major act.

I saw him at Hackney Ocean last year, once was enough to say I've seen him, simply because although enjoyable he's not quite at his peak anymore and the setlists vary little. smile

Very true. If you listen to the band in soundcheck... thats a whole other story. As I have said above, he brings in the revue character that he had on the show in the early 60s... but his little spanish rapper chick is going too far!!

Spannish rapper chick? At my show he had this C-grade cabaret performer called Tammy Ray highlighted over the course of several songs. Yet he didn't even do "Man's World" or "Cold Sweat" himself. Apparently she's mother to one of his children, shame he mixed business and the personal like that...

Yeah, one of his dancers is from spain, and once in a while he lets her rap. Obviously you were lucky enough not to see it.
Tommy is his girlfriend since 1998. She's a chick from Vegas, and she thinks that she's the new Jani Joplin, but other than that she's a cool girl. JB always mixed up prvate business with show business, except for Martha High he has fucked every single woman he ever had in his band.
But give him some respect, he truly loves Tommy (they have a two years old son together with the name James Joseph to honor Grandpops Brown), although his idea that Tommy is a better singer than Vicki Anderson is quite twisted. wink

I hear you, I would have disregarded her set if he'd done all his own main classics. I just felt like time was being wasted on some woman I wouldn't go see perform if she was singing in my back garden. biggrin
