R.I.P. Denise Lasalle - Queen of the Blues

For nearly two years SoulTrackers were praying for the health of R&B great Denise LaSalle, who suffered from congestive heart failure and later had her leg amputated. Sadly, we report today that the “Queen of the Blues” has died at a hospital in Nashville. She was 78.

OH no. I once saw Denise LaSalle appearing live on a bill with James Brown, BB King and Bobby Blue Bland about 1985 in Montgomery Alabama. Funkiest good time I'd ever had. Consummate showwomanship.

RIP

I can thank my parents for being exposed to some of her music while I was growing up. Two songs of hers that I remember hearing at home and on the radio was "Trapped By A Thing Called Love" and "I'm So Hot", an uptempo dance number. R.I. P.

I had her single my Toot Toot, in 1985 as I liked the cartoon video. Did not realise it was a gut bucket blues songs - she was one of the last true down home blues singers, although some of her songs were pop.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
