Sananda's New 3-Disc Album - A Question

I've been a little late to this one and the old thread's now closed. Only managed the one listen so far and for an album as dense as this it might need a few more! The one thing that's stood out so far though is the lead single It's Been A Long Time. Am I right in saying that the version on disc 1 is the exact same as on disc 3, give or take a slightly longer fade out on the latter? I'm all for SM's quirky ways but this just seems a little too odd even for him...

i totally admit ... sananda was the only artist that was (in my mind ) as

close to Prince in the 87 - 93 time frame ... at some times I thought he was

better or lets just say i wore out his albums more than Prince's ...

but I fell off the map with Sananda after the 2001 or so time frame ... saw him

in NYC around that time .... loved it but his output since then has been "hit or miss"

for me ...

I will have to check this out ...

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

is this the one that has 'amoeba' on it? i thought that was the best song and it's
already like 10 years old or something, isn't it? from around the time of wildcard,
which was his last great album imo. everything after that is same ol same ol and
doesn't even come close to his previous output. seems almost like a different
artist entirely.

the only songs i still like on his later albums are the ones like 'new world forming',

'sacred' (super track!) and metamorpheus and such, which are all older tracks he
released on his website back around the time of 'amoeba'.

it's sad that he doesn't make songs like that anymore. i'd rather have a single cd
with songs like that, and 'paradise postponed' (brilliant!) every few years than a
3 cd package with these nondescript songs he's been releasing.

but i guess to each their own. a lot of people said something similar about prince
and his later output and i can't get enough of that music, still.

It is indeed, it's on disc 3 along with a new intro of sorts called 'Amoeba Strain'. (You're not missing much there if you're a big fan of the track). Was very happy he finally found a home on his last album for Paradise Postponed. That was on my wishlist for so long!

Aye, I don't think it's any coincidence that my favourite song on the new album dates back to the Symphony or Damn album (She's My Baby) which is '93. Still, I'm liking Limp Dick Blues which is a new one...

I feel a lot like you do. I love Sacred (what great song it is IMO) and Metamorpheus but like Paradise Postponed I had them before already. I must admit I never really listened to his albums after Wildcard - not even the ones I have. There are a few newer songs that I heard that I like, but overall I don't feel his music after Wildcard anymore.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Vibrator is from 95 and IMO that's his best album and Wildcard is a great album too. After Wildcard and the shows around that time I wasn't that impressed anymore just like you and many other fans of TTD from back in the day. I respect him for doing his thing, I just don't feel his newer music.

LOL. I can't answer your question but you can load both tracks up in an audio editor to inspect both waveforms side-by-side.

I thought there might be apps for that but I'm a bit of a luddite. Plus, I was hoping there'd be something mentioned about it already as it's such an oddity. Putting the same song on different 'new' albums is nothing new of course (TTD already recycled Read My Lips, also from a Symphony or Damn single, for Vibrator) but never have I heard of the same song being put on a new album twice!

Me too. Almost makes me want to buy it for a laugh. But I stopped buying his 'Freedom' music years ago. Maybe it's his way of getting people to talk about it. Hah.

One obvious difference between "It's Been A Long Time" on Volume I and Volume III is that the duration is 4:52 on I and a tad longer at 4:56 on III. It's hard for me to tell much of a difference as far as the content is involved. It's a funk-driven tune that appears to be a signature for the album, and undoubtedly something to get people talking about the music, as Tump suggests, as a way to tie the 3 volumes together, loosley wound around the idea of "Prometheus and Pandora." It's a part of the dialogue that the 2 characters express on Volumes I and III along with "I Don't Know How to Love," and "If U Lived Here" sung on Vol. III.

The slightly longer fade out is the only difference I could pinpoint as well. It still makes you think what the thought process was though, if they are indeed the same content-wise; Why add those extra 4 seconds at all? The difference with the other two tracks you mention is that they're actually different. If I recall correctly Vol II is mainly instrumentals of tracks on Vol I and II (probably why he hasn't released the usual Instrumentals accompaniment to this album).

He should gather a band, record a set on Austin City Limits for posterity, then play the festival cirucut in the States. I'm partial to that scenario, residing Sateside. biggrin

I'm not. Do a European Tour even with The Nudge Nudge, just a bass player and a drummer, he could easily tour year-round. Come on, Sananda, there's plenty of folks who love you! Take your show on the road!

Well...him touring year-round is just pipe-dreaming at this point, IMO. I'd love to see him in any band format. The Nudge Nudge make a wonderful team! Anyway, he's older now, got 2 young kids, and is comfy staying not-too-far from home--a hard scenario to beat! Also, dude probably doesn't want to stir up any demons on the road, another motivation to keep his concert schedule light. He does video his concerts and puts 'em online, so there's that. In any case, you've got a much better chance to catch a show than I do, being much closer & burning less fuel, even though you might find yourself crossing a few borders to attend a show. It'd make a really special holiday for you! If he would just do one more round in the States--his native land--tho'!!!

I agree, chances seem slim he'll do a tour again unfortunately. Having watched his interview with Piers Morgan a few months back I just get the impression the guy's just fine where he is. He seems comfy (no bad thing).

Just realised as well that the original version of The Birds (another old free download from back in the day) is on Prometheus & Pandora. Happy days. I hated what he'd done with it on his last album.

How many original songs are on this triple album that weren't previously available (not including different versions/instrumentals that are on the set)?

The Rise of the Zugebrian Time Lords, Volume 2. Slower tempo and sung at a higher pitch, with mellotron, and acoustic guitars higher in the mix. I like it!

To each their own. Personally the Zugebrian version sounds almost like a demo in comparison.

About one album's worth lol New World Forming, She's My Baby, Glad She's Gone, The Birds Are Singing, Hail Mary, Windows, Before You Knew What Love Was, Mona Lisa's Laughing, Sacred and Amoeba (phew) are all old tracks. Maybe more. Remember as well that a lot of the new tracks are short segues/intros too.

You don't like the charm of that alternate version? It is the "relax by the river on a sunny day and enjoy wind blowing throug the willows" version of the song. I do like the first-published version, but personally, I don't care if a song sounds like a demo. A demo can be just as cool as a slicked-up production, especially if the song is good--the curious orgers looking around to catch demo-version gems of of Prince tunes might also agree.

I'd say about half, but again the ones that aren't are more often than not segues/intros and not full songs. I see the song/s I mention my OP have been given videos. Now you tell me there's a difference between these eek
