Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Ouch!
Understandable though. Lackluster songs, VERY WEAK lead single, media slandered him for all reasons... Super Bowl show was mediocre. Basically his new image (shaved hair, beard, country look) wasn’t well received. It’s not hype or relevant and unfortunately your image has to stand out to become relevant again.

I heard the album and it’s just harmless mediocre pop music but the media went really far slandering the man. I say this as a non-JT fan. The whole nipplegate thing obviously was an accident. People just wanna turn it into battle of the sexes and of cours in such a political climate eveyone will be against him.

It’s really sad that music nowadays has to been greenlit by enough politically correct media outlets to be marketable as good music. In an era of unqualified opinions like those absurd Tweets and whatever butthurt stans say.... it’s hard to appreciate music. The only mistake JT did was not apologize immediately after nipplegate happened (Even if it was an accident) but he was young and cocky like every Teen superstar-turned worldwide superstar. Anyways... I hope the music industry doesn’t become completely submerged in sociopolitical agendas made by people who have suffered a lot. Music is an artform that goes way back, it’s therapy session for some and it’s fun for others, no need to blame the artist. Just ugly stuff bro peace out

It is so hard to appreciate shit, I agree. Politics aside if your shit is stinkin' up the place people are eventually going to point it out regardless of how cute you look in a flannel and bandana. Should they just buy it anyway because... what? The record company says its good? Of course the record company says its good they paid for that shit.

if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

I hope not either but the promo and everything leading up to the album was not very good. One of the recent things thst didn't help JT's case was claiming to be in support of the #metoo movement but working with Andy Dick who prior was alleged of sexual misconduct.

The fact that being alleged of a crime regardless of if you committed it or not is enough to end careers and turn your life upside down now is dangerous but I won't veer too far from the subject.

Bottom line is everything about this project has been mostly hype with many notable missteps made by JT and his camp. It's surprising that he's actually being called out at all for anything.

Co-sign all of this. Twitter basically turned its whole back on him WHILE he was live, from the « who is JT? » selfie kid memes to Britney/Janet stans and naturally black Twitter. As you said, surprising nobody accused him yet of some sexual misconduct, not that he did anything (or not) but he looks like a perfect target.

Right? Bad music = bad music no matter the time and space
. Good music too... especially The Guardian / Pitchfork they always have to mention the status quo even when reviewing a pure pop record

I didn't mean I was surprised about how JT hasn't been accused of sexual misconduct but about how someone like him is receiving all this backlash all of a sudden. Prior to the album's release he was generally viewed as someone who can do no wrong by the media but since Man if the Woods dropped and especially since the Super Bowl, not many people have been saying nice things about JT from the reception of his new album to that of the Halftime Show.

I've never been a JT fan, he's a shining example of mediocrity being put on a pedestal and while he has some good songs and has talent, he was never a good recording artist. I also think JT brought most of this criticism on himself but it's interesting how people seemed to have pulled a 180 on the dude. Funny that the "President of Pop", himself, has a new album that couldn't even sell 300,000 units after nearly 2 weeks of availability.

Yea, and Woody Allen as well.

.

I don't think JT cares about negative publicity -- he loves it all.
