Appealing video, kinda bland song.

Purple05:
In other words I don't work for you.... That was one of the peaks for sales in the industry history. I can name a few off the top of my head but I won't just because...

Because you can't find the data from 2002 on artists who moved 15M plus units. I get that now.

I never said more artist sold that amount in02(btw there are some who did) I said artist sold higher in the sane period. N that's true.
Once again I don't work for you

His new song kind of reminds me of the George Michael song "Freeek". Not so much in how it sounds but there's just something about it. I'm not sure what to think of it yet but I don't dislike it. It could grow on me.

I'm feelin' ya on that. It's dirty, it's futuristic, it's unapologetically about fucking, and there's a robot in it. The bass effect is also similar. Heavy, muted, hollow.

I've listened to it 4 times and I think I like it. I'm not the biggest JT fan in the world but he's had some really good songs on each of his albums up to now so as far as modern pop music goes, I'd consider him one of the best. I look forward to hearing more from this album

It has a MJ meets Prince meets George Michael vibe to it, but to me it also sounds similar to this song's chorus called Move (2013) by Little Mix.

First thing I thought was the the main beat and riff is very similar to George Clinton's Atomic Dog

I realize this harkens back to Janet's "So Much Betta" (which sampled "Daftendirekt" by Daft Punk). That makes me hope hard for a remix with Missy Elliott.

Also, that intro (which also acts almost like a bridge later on) with the heavy instrumentation and build-up is very much how JT arranges his music in concert. "Sexyback" on the FutureSex/LoveShow had a similar long build-up and fatter production from an otherwise spartan-esque production on record. Other songs were arranged and treated similarly.

I think one thing Prince missed doing sometimes was taking the arrangements he did in concert, and approaching a record like that. I think D&P & prince were two albums that sort of felt "live" in that regard, when it came to arrangements.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Prince did a big instrumentation like this already with Shhh, right?

Yeah, "Shhh" is a good example. But oddly, that hook in "Shhh" is from an old ass song on For You. A song that comes to mind is "The Morning Papers", or "Diamonds and Pearls". All those fills etc on the latter are really indicative of how Prince approached live cuts later on. "Filthy" picks up that ideology. I noticed moreso on FutureSex/LoveShow that he did this with his music (opposed to the later 20/20 shows). I dig it.

I like it and I don't.

Translation: It's a grower.

And I'm almost certain that it's not the strongest single off the album.

Meh.

I think a lot of comparisons can be made between Timberlake and George Michael, and one area that certainly applies in is their artistic metamorphosis. The thing is, though, I think it's Timberlake's time to release a "Listen Without Prejudice" style album. He's way too old to be playing the pop game like he did 10 or 15 years ago.

But right now he just seems like an act designed for maximum commercial appeal and 0 soul. And that's really the difference between Timberlake and the late and great George Michael.
A certain kind of mellow.

To translate: "Gosh, it sure would be great if that young man invited Ms. Janet Jackson to perform a song with him at the upcoming large sporting finale event. Otherwise, that would be a right bit rude of him." lol lol

I do hope that happens. It would be a great missed opportunity for them both to publicly show they have made amends, and for Janet to say "You couldn't crush me, bitches!"

To be fair JT's a veteran act at this point but nevertheless, I don't think he's ever had a stadium tour.

EDIT: The 20/20 Tour was a stadium tour but he shared the stage with Jay Z.

What boundaries is he looking to "push?" Is JT and camp priding themselves over making some type "industry game changing" multi-genre type album?!

We'll find out when the album comes out but to be honest, I'd rather he didn't try to push any boundaries and just released an album of good pop songs. In this day and age, that in itself would be game changing for the industry.

Yeah, I knew that about the samples on Freeek. GM was a master at using samples in his music. Just check out Star People 97 or Shoot The Dog for more examples.
