Your favourite Christmas carols

Mine is 'We Three Kings' and John Rutter's 'Jesus Child'

Whilst looking for videos of the songs I stumbled accross these two... smile

Jingle Bells

Funny you mentioned this one...

Jingle Bells is neither a Christmas carol nor a Christmas song. Jingle Bells, as we call it today, was written in 1857 and called "One Horse Open Sleigh", with words by James Pierpont. It was written to be sung at US Thanksgiving time and is linked to the sleigh races held in Medford, Massachusetts.

Mine is the Little Drummer Boy....because it's absolute bullshit. DRUMMING. ...for a newborn. ...DRUMMING

You've got a screamingbaby that you've just put to sleep. ...and
We're talking DRUMMING?

Aside from that. I'm content with Donny Hathaway's THIS CHRISTMAS. Put that on or any Temptations/Jackson 5/Stevie wonder. ....and it's great.

Most of the other stuff doesn't speak to me

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

^Coventry Carol is another favourite of mine!

I usually tend to prefer the traditional versions of it too, but it is such a good piece of music, that even some of the more modern versions work:

Thanks everyone!

My favorite renditions of the actual carols are:

"Away In A Manger" -- Nat King Cole

"Of The Father's Love Begotten (Corde Natus Ex Parentis)" -- Richard Proulx

"God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" -- The Miracles

"Hark! The Herald Angels Sing" -- Wynton Marsalis (instr.)

"Silent Night" -- The Temptations (original) (most prefer the later 1980 version)

"Greensleeves" -- Vince Guaraldi Trio (instr.)

"What Child Is This?" -- Vanessa Williams (cheating a little, but wanted to distinguish)

Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

RJOrion

it may not be considered a "christmas carol" , but "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway is the greatest christmas song ever....not even a close second...

for more traditional christmas carols, i dig "Silver Bells", (especially the Diana Ross version)
