Madonna is running scared. Her career is on a downslide. She wanted to go the create some talk about her cd with a controversial video (a practice that has worked in the past for her) & ended up having to back pedal since she is concerned the backlash would hurt her cd sales. And with the single not getting a lot of airplay she's looking at dismal sales for this cd. My guess is WB is really putting the pressure on her.

yes, probably. i read that they weren't going to reimburse her for the video costs, because they didn't want her to make the video in the first place, and then she went and pulled it in the end. i have a feeling this has a lot to do with why it was finally released in some form.

as for backpedaling, i'm not sure about that. she's a smart woman, especially when it comes to pushing the buttons of the public. she's had backlash before, and sales slipped (Sex/Erotica), but she always weathers the storm and comes back from it on top.

Madonna's career is NOT in a downslide. The single has just entered the Top 40 (it's Number 37 with a bullet) and we all know the album is gonna debut at Number One when it is released next week.I don't think that the controversy surrounding the video is gonna have any real effect on the sales of the CD.It's already the most anticipated CD of the year.

Consider all these things working in the CD's favor...

***Massive promotion---next week,Madonna will be everywhere. She will be in New York, signing copies of her CD at Tower Records on April 23.She will be on MTV,performing songs from the new CD on April 22.She will be on an episode of Will And Grace,on Letterman, and several other TV appearances next week (too many to keep track of!).In addition, the newly re-edited video of "AL" is all over VH-1 and MTV.

***Magazines---she will be on the cover of People Magazine next week.In additon, major newspapers and other magazines will have their reviews and articles about the album.

***The album not leaking too soon---the CD leaked only a few days ago,so it's not like it's been circulating on the Internet for weeks already. This will help the sales of the CD.

***The remixes---the maxi-single,featuring killer remixes from Missy and others,is due on April 29.

Also, factor in the upcoming singles and videos (she starts shooting the "Hollywood" video in a few weeks).Trust me,Madonna is on a roll. And with plans for a tour next year, you ain't see nothin' yet."Downslide"? Hardly!
