I have about 16 songs by Sister Sledge. Three of which are remixes. I have 46 songs by the Pointer Sisters. Four of which are remixes. I like them both, but if I had to choose, I'd choose the Pointers over the Sledges. Siste Sledge was pretty much R&B/Dance/Easy Listening, while the Pointer Sisters were R&B/Dance/Pop/Rock/Easy Listening and little more. I like their wider range of genre appeal.

Sister Sledge's 1981 album All American Girls is very underrated.Produced by Narada Michael Walden,it is filled with excellent tracks.

Many people don't even know they won a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance duo or group in 1974 for Fairytale (they are from Arkansas), Bonnie and Anita who wrote the song were up for Best Country Song. I loved Yes We Can, Steamed Heat and Chick On the Side...those are all early recordings. They have 7 top 10 singles..you mentioned 6 of them, along with Neutron Dance. 13 top 20s. Beside being one of the first black female artists to be played in heavy rotation on MTV. After Donna Summer (SWHFTM & Unconditional Love - 83), and Denience Williams (LHIFTB - 84), with Jump & I'm So Excited in 84.

They're from Oakland, CA actually.

They are from Arkansas....their father moved his ministry to Oakland Ca, Anita even went back to Arkansas for grade 5 (stayed with her Grandparents), grade 7 & grade 10. Anita is also an inductee of the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame and still owns the land where her grandfather built his home.

Favorite Pointer Sisters song: "Automatic"...I think this is one of the catchiest,most fun songs of the 80s.

Favorite Sister Sledge song: "He's The Greatest Dancer"....a fun fact: Chic were going to keep this song for themselves.

Their audience wasn't used to hearing a rock/pop sound from them,so I think it took many of them by surprise but I never understood why they re-recorded it as a reggae song.Makes no sense,and it didn't really make people like the song more.

Really? I'm not trying to sound flippant but everywhere I see says they were born in Oakland.

They very well could have been born in Oakland, I am not sure when their parents moved to California. I have heard (seen) them talk about being from Arkansas in interviews, their family (roots) is from Arkansas, so probably why they talk about it.
