Waiting for the CD set in the mail; picked up the bundle with Tha Funk Capital of the World.

I immediately recognised the second last song on the album from a live DVD that he released many years ago:

"Reach out and touch somebody."

So cool to finally hear a studio version of this one.

Tomorrow's the official day, hoping to get myself a copy.

A Salute To Bernie, Boomerang & Come Back Bootsy are the highlights for me.

Also digging Hot Saucer, Ladies Nite, Snow Bunny, Hi-On-Heels, Worth My While & Illusions.

I don't really dig most of the vocalists, but, that was expected. It's what he's been doing for what, 20 years now? Musically, there's some serious FONK here. I like 2/3 of it... that's a winner in my opinion!

The second song on the album, "Bass Rigged System" features Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten and it just makes you wanna say, "GOT DAMN!!"

This was one of my favorite songs on first listen--I'm waiting though for my stuff in the mail.

Yes, he came by me one night doing that whole audience wading thang. You could feel the energy coming off the mugg. He tried it in Atlanta once with P-Funk on the mothership reconnection tour of '96 and some damned fool ganked his star shades.

He still does it.

He held his 66th birthday party and official release party last night here in Nashville. He didn't perform but he did get on stage for about the last hour or so for some dancing, emceeing, and waded through the crowd. His acts he chose to perform since he can't due to his recent health issues, were folks that are featured on the album! I'm still high on funk!

At first I didn't think it was John, but his name is in the "Thank You" notes, so I guess it might be him after all.

It definitely is the late great John Blackwell who played with Prince; Bootsy speaks about him with admiration in an interview from around the 12-16 minute mark:
