I like her new album, the only issue is the middle section is a little slow paced! "Revenge" "Beautiful Trauma" and "What About Us" are great tracks. Also love the closing song "You Get My Love". She really belts out on that one

I'm in Australia and every fucking third song on my fucking work radio is fucking Pink
She gets rotated with Ed fucking Sheeran and Taylor fucking Swift.

I've not bought a P!NK album in a while, but I greatly appreciate her radio hits. I love that her voice has gotten better and better as she's matured. Her songs are very personal yet identifiable with a listener. A lot of artists might express personal things in songs, but it doesn't always mean the listener has the same note in their own life. We appreciate the artist's sincerity, but there remains a disconnect.

Pink's music, although I'm still not married or divorced, have a child, or a woman, resonates as anthemic for a lot of us. She really takes Gaga's idea of "Bad Romance" and puts it in a more cohesive and accessible (and less pretentious) format with "Beautiful Trauma" (the song). She has such a great way of finding a terrific hook and wrapping it in a wonderful arrangement and production. The final product is almost always angsty pop perfection.

I might stream it on Amazon Music to see how much I dig it.

nice review of her music. You will like it for sure then. I didn't buy the last album for some reason even though it was really successful...but this one..I liked the cover so...had to. Plus I have her first four albums.

I usually love P!nk, but I don't really dig her new stuff.

Anyone else notice the homage to her debut album with the shades and the stone-face? Pretty cool.

Probably unintentional, but I see it. Can't Take Me Home was such a good record. I know it's not quite what she wanted to do and was pushed into an image, but it's a solid record. So many great songs on there. "Most Girls", "You Make Me Sick", "There You Go" - the singles were fire. But then she came out with a bit more of herself with "Family Portrait", "Don't Let Me Get Me", etc. on the second album. That second album really started her growth as a person and artist.

It's rather typical, though, isn't it? That first record is the record company's vision. Maybe the first two. But then the artist sells some records, gets some clout, and they do their own thing. They "express themselves". Control was that for Janet. Stripped for Christina Aguilera. Britney was that for Ms. Spears. Madonna's was probably a bit of True Blue more moreso Like A Prayer when she really got personal. And somehow most of them feel the need to take their clothes off to express themselves. Pink never really did that, per se.

True, its the same for Beyonce and Rihanna now...only in the present putting out their best works that are more personal. Misunderstood was a great album even better than Can't Take Me Home...but even that was good too especially for a r&b newcomer in the game. She should not shy away from more r&b tracks because she is so good at it.

I can't stand Rihanna. I know nothing of her music, don't care to.

With Beyoncé, I would agree that her personal stuff is her best. BEYONCÉ was incredibly personal and the most un-Beyoncé thing she ever did. It's also her best album to date. Lemonade probably comes in second, for me.

Bey's earlier work is good, but it's formulaic. A couple/three big songs that usually sample another song, are 98% percussion and rhythm track with her singing over that (like a beat-capella track on a 12" maxi), little to no instrumentation until the chorus (if at all). The ballad which is all original (opposed to built on a sample), and the rest is just shit. Listen to "Single Ladies". Where are the instruments? Find the instrumental and listen for anything aside from a drum machine. "Crazy In Love" is a 50/50 mix but was the blueprint for that type of thing later on.

The last two albums are anything but that. They're moody, quirky, different - totally out of her wheel house. Timberlake wrote one of the best songs on BEYONCÉ, "Rocket", and I think "Drunk In Love" is a weaker track on the album.

Pink has a style, but it never comes across as "oh, we've heard that before". She definitely has a style - a great mix of pop and angsty girl rock that Avril only wishes she had mastered - but each album has its own personality. She doesn't sound like a one-trick pony like so many artists.

Agree 100%. I love Rocket by the way. Almost disturbing how much she details how much she loves making love to Jay Z. Tracks like Jealous and No Angel are also personal revelations about her marriage...as well her tribute to the child she lost in Heaven. This is the stuff people don't talk about when discussing Beyonce. They are not listening to the music.

That's true. She has been outdoing herself since "I'm Not Dead". She doesnt have any competition and is a true artist. Her live shows are a true representation of that.

The thing about that is, I'm Not Dead was sort of a re-centering for her. Try This was kind of not her in a lot of ways. Even Linda Perry called her and said, "What the fuck is this?" "God Is A DJ" and the like were some weird time she was in. I'm Not Dead really brought her back to who she is as an artist and person. Try This feels like she's lost. It's her My December (Kelly Clarkson misstep when she tried to channel Evanescence). So yeah, I'm Not Dead sorta said, "Hey, I'm still here, and I'm still Pink." Ironically she was on the cusp of a breakup with still-husband Corey Hart, so there's a lot of shit going on in that music.

Wow I didnt know that even Linda Perry shot her down with that album. It is her worst out of her collection, although the slow jam "Catch Me When Im Sleeping" is a jam and sound out of place on that record. She was 'trying' too hard to not be pop. I'm Not Dead was def a step back in the right direction with tracks like Stupid Girls (hilarious) and "U & Ur Hand". Both sound like Mizundastood tracks.
