Old school songs you liked that are played out.

I'm sure we all have an "Old School" or "Jammin Oldies" station in our area. You know the ones where they think the only song The Commodores ever recorder was "Brick House" What the hell is up with these stations? I swear they have like 50 songs they just rotate. It's almost as bad a stations playing current shit. Some songs I used to love, I can no longer stand hearing. I loved me some "Atomic Dog" but I can't even hear how funky the song sounded with "new ears" 'cause now it's just that song they play 6 fucking times a day! Some others that get played into the ground that I just can't listen to anymore:

Rick James: Super Freak, Give It To Me Baby
Earth, Wind, & Fire: Let's Groove
Zapp: More Bounce
Kool & the Gang: Celebration
Aretha Franklin: Respect
Brick: Dazz
Prince, 1999, Purple Rain, When Doves Cry
Marvin Gay: What's Going On, Let's Get It On
The Whispers: Rocksteady
Michael Jackson: Billie Jean
Cameo: Word Up

What did I forget?

Good call maxxx. This might be the best example:

"Heatwave "always&Forever"

Man I loooved that jam back in the day. I think I played it 5-6 times a day for a few weeks after it hit. It was cool for a while after when I would hear it now and then. However, over the last 20 years that song has been played so much it has become a stereotype of what a slow song sounds like. If I hear that shit played at one more wedding Imma go postal!

This is an odd topic, since it is implying that good music is somehow now bad because it is either "old" or played on the radio too much. If you don't want to listen, turn the radio off. For me, especially, Princes old stuff is never boring, no matter how many times I listen. It is either always good or was never good and you were kidding yourself at the time.

Most disco though should be banned. lol. Sexy Dancer being the Disco duck of that year. lol. nana Deja.

Not an odd topic at all. I love taco's but if I had to eat them for dinner every night, I can guarantee you I wouldn't love them for long. What I'm really saying is why are "old school" stations so limited in what they play. I've been skipping BoW 4 some years also, but now it's ok again, especially since i saw him per4ming it on 10yrs MTV (the same per4mance as the one used 4 the Will You Be There video).

yeah likewise I go back&Listen to things.but Artists back in the 80's til Now who have there Dominance on Radio&Video have gotten so over-played at times.so some songs seem to just go on&on.I got that 10nth Anniversary Show on Video as well.cool concept for "Will You Be There".

You know! I'd LOVE to hear "Happy Man" and/or "Chic Cheer" on the radio! Or even "Funny Bone"! headbang But SOME songs are played out regionally. I hear "Le Freak" once in a while (I don't listen to radio that much anymore), but in SoCal it isn't played as much as "Good Times." I'm ALL for Chic deep cuts being played on the radio! nod

Unfortunately the old school format is the counterpart to the classic rock format. Not that the classic songs don't need airplay, it's the fact that the classic songs they pick don't vary from the same ones they play all the time. I'd like to hear Aretha's version of "Spanish Harlem" instead of "Respect" all the time. I never get tired of 1-2 punch of "Spanish Harlem" and "Rock Steady," but all they want to play is "Natural Woman" and "Respect."
