By no means was it as bad as, say, Nick Jonas' disastrous effort at the ACM Awards back in April. In fact, it was perfectly capable — Mars has real chops on guitar, and just about every other instrument in the studio, because he's one of those guys.

But he's no Prince.

And who is? Prince Rogers Nelson may be best remembered as a pop superstar, but make no mistake: He was a guitar god among guitar gods, and that solo is one for the ages. Taking it on is like taking on Whitney Houston for an American Idol audition. It just isn't done. And if you're going to try it, you got to have it down. Every note. Cold.

Mars played a sort of simplified, stripped-down version, and played it ... just OK.

There are a lot of superior guitarists out there, guys who've studied the craft for years and nothing else, who could've stood in here; and no one would've complained. And even they would've fallen short of the real thing.

But hey, credit to Mars and the Grammys production crew for the choice to do just one song — clearly they'd learned their lesson from the schmaltzy medley that Lad...ed through at least year's tribute to David Bowie. That performance was hastily thrown-together, however, while this year's Grammys producers had some time to plan and practice.

I'm not sure what you're babbling about this time but Bruno plays guitar solos in his live shows all the time so this wasn't some one time thing.

If you checked him out on youtube there are dozens of vids where he is playing instruments. He is a real musician and a damn good one.

People need to stop looking for the next Prince and give these young cats a chance. There will never be another Prince so stop setting yourself up for disappointment with false expectations.

There are a handful of great artists out there if you open your mind.

The other song is "I'd Rather Be With You" by Bootsy Collins.

He perfectly mixed the two songs, even Bootsy tweeted that he admired that.

The song is also the basis for "Redbone", Bootsy's music is still relevant to this day which is very awesome

The special made me hope he puts out a live album and dvd of his tour as the show was an abbrieviated version. The live performance of Perm, Chunky and Calling All My Lovelies had me wanting them on CD

I actually tweeted him and asked if he was going to release the Apollo special on DVD with bonus footage. He didnt answer But I agree that he really needs to released a tour DVD!

I finally saw this show, and it was nothing short of amazing, beautiful. The man sings with so much passion I just wish he had sangsome songs from his last album and not just from 24Magic album.
