The song is catchy but nothing that special. Her goofy personality is behind her popularity. Like someone says, she's a trashy Nicky Minaj.

Isn't Nicki a copy of Lil' Kim though? H.W.A., who was before Kim, might have started that kind of image for female rappers. Interesting how the 1st Female Rapper who wasn't Cardi B. to Hit No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100 has lyrics describing how not to be a hoe while Cardi's is the antithesis. Go Women!?
Ex: "Plus, when you give it up so easy you ain't even foolin' him

Not much different than the other #1s after Lauryn. Lady Marmalade is about prostitutes and the original version by Eleventh Hour came out long before Lauryn Hall had a career. It's also Patti LaBelle's most known hit. The Ludacris & Shawnna song is about being in the club and Iggy's song is bragging about the rich life. Maybe, but Grace had an androgynous look. Kim looks more like Hoes With Attitudes to me.

True, Labelle's was mainly fantasy while this Cardi seems to be "about that life" given the life story toted in the media. Does Lady Marmalade glamorize prostitution? I suppose...IMO the lyrics are written in a way to promote that question. This seems like one of the more sleazier tunes to get top spot, maybe I'm becoming more puritanical. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2

It's the Top 40/Hot 100, not the gospel chart. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. stpaisios said: hip hop is dead I looked her up on YouTube a couple of weeks ago when Wendy Williams kept talking about her. At first I thought she was talking about a male rapper. You right hip hop is done the way we knew it with the classic artists like Tribe,KRS One,Whodini,Ice Cube,P.E. It's a wrap now! That's why I keep my ears closed to the newbies coming in the game now. Nothing I can relate to. Don't laugh at my funk
