As a tribute to the late great Tom Petty, I was hoping that people could post a few of their favorite Tom Petty songs. I could list plenty, but I'll stick to three in order to leave some for others to mention

Refugee - such a classic. No other song like this ever to hit the Top 40!

Free Fallin' - great chorus and play on words....

You Don't Know What It's Like - one of many greats from his wonderful Wildflowers album

this may be strange, but I identified heavily with the subject matter on "She's The One".... so thusly its my favorite TP&THB album

3. Angel Dream No 4

(those will always be my top) ...that album came in the mail by accident (my brother subscribed to BMG) and he was like "Eew Girl movie soundtrack...i don't want this!)....

and I sneakily err um... opened copied and returned it. mwahahhahaa.

(I've eventually bought it twice)

But honestly.... you can't knock any of their hits. TP committed fully to the ideal of 50's/60's R&R and favored melody and memory... they're fantastic songs.

I never bought his albums during the height of his career but I fully acknowledge that he was one of the best, I may have liked John Mellencamp more at the time, but Tom is worthy of the success he gained.

i always thought John was Tom's counterpart in bringing some rock credibility and grit to Top 40 radio and bringing some great choruses and melody to rock radio.

The documentary about his career (Runnin' Down a Dream, dir. by Peter Bogdanovich) is really great. Bought it for my Dad last summer!

She's the one is one of his best works, very ignored and underrated then and even now people forget he even did it. But start to finish one of his best albums
