I've never been bored of Madonna and I doubt there will come a time when I will be. I am disappointed about the video being re-edited though.

me too. i'm glad she pulled it. because, again, i think it would have been hypocritical if she'd put it out, considering what she says the song is about, and what it's actually AGAINST (which isn't the war).

i commend her for having the decency/intelligence to pull it. i'm less thrilled with her willingness to compromise either the anti-war position or the video-pulling position.

but, hey, videos are re-edited and re-shot frequently, so... this isn't unprecedented.

Yeah, I'm not surprised. It just still seems like she's trying to appease people with it this time around- I don't know. The fact that she pulled the original is fine (and wasn't that edited down anyway?), but I would have just let it be pulled, if she felt so strongly about the message that she had.

i would too.

but i think she just got cold feet. that type of controversy isn't going to sell any albums, so i don't think it was about controversy, because she was basically pulling the major promotional tool (to this point) for the album. multiply that by the fact that it wasn't going to be a DVD single either.

had this been the 3rd video (like WIFLFAG), or something, she would have just pulled it and been done with it. but this is the video for the first single, with no plans to release a video single, so this is the flagship for promoting the album on the front end. the prospect of kicking off a new Madonna album with no video available on TV or on DVD... that's kind of a scary proposition. for her. and us biggrin

It would be scary- you're right! But the fact that the video was pulled might have made me forgive the song if no re-edit came out. The song still blows, in my opinion.

i've heard it between 5 and 10 times now. it has grown on me. i don't hate it anymore. but i still find it very unimpressive and underwhelming for a Madonna single, let alone a lead single.

ok..so i just heard the felix da housecats mix of American Life and this song is bangin'! It is so good. Even the rap sounds cool with this version...maybe i'll just buy the singles and burn the actual cd.

JAMIESTARR

She tries WAY too hard to stay relevant and hip, even more so than Prince, this single is tanking at radio, maybe it's
time for her to go away
