who is getting a little bored of Madonna?

i sure am. i mean, i'm trying to see the point of madonna nowadays. she has many positive attributes within the music industry but i think now it's getting a bit thin. i listened to that new single and it just doesn't stand up to previous songs. plus it seems that everytime she has an album coming out, some kind of controversy has to happen. i'm sure i will buy the new album - but i'll have to listen to it first.

I know she needs to ditch the Cher-do-you-believe-in-love-computer-effect she has on her voice. It was used cleverly first couple times but now it's getting old...

I never get bored with her because, for the most part, she never stays the same. The Madonna we're seeing nowadays is a totally different person from, say, the Madonna of the 90s.

no shit sherlock. but i think she's just trying a bit too hard. i'm not saying a forty-something can't be doing what she's doing or be on MTV, etc. i just think it's getting boring.

I've been tired of her for the past decade. Justify My Love was probably the last time I truly enjoyed her. Beyond all of the publicity stunts, I don't see where the talent lies. If anything I could say that she sure has sold the hell outta some sex. But musically, she rides the coattails of other genres, dresses it up as an image and the critics laud it as reinvention everytime.

i think it is great to reinvent yourself...it keeps people guessing. The problem i run into with madonna is that she seems to sell herself, and her past, short. She puts on an heir that she is so much better as a person now and that everything before this point was just shit. I really hate that. Also, her current music is not bad, it just doesn't have that same flare that she used to show. I always felt that she loved what she did, musically speaking. Now, i'm not saying she isn't now...i'm just saying hat now it seems so obviously contrived and attempted. It always came off as natural before whereas I get the feeling that she relies much more heavily on producers now to get that electro sound. Also, I want her to remember that she is from Michigan...not England. No matter how hard she tries to reinvent herself, she also needs to remain honest and true to herself. I feel like that is what's missing from the new music.

This is all my opinion and really doesn't mean shit to anybody else, though smile

Madonna sold out with her pro-war stance. Maybe she would like nice hearty snif of dead Iraqi flesh before biting into another vegan ick meal.

I've never had any use for her outside of some of her early dance songs, just because some were fun to dance to. But I never spent any money on her music, and just find her contrived in general. She's Madonna, I can't take her seriously.

A little bit dissapointed at her backpedling with the video. She should have just went for it and it sucks that she went back just becuase of public opinion (or what she thinks public opinion is). Oh well. I just hope that she doesn't edit that much out of AL the video when it does out come out here.

I've been bored ever since Evita, what was that, '96?

I'm more a fan of early stuff, as with most artists. Don't get me wrong, I like her, and I think she's great, and I like how she reinvents herself, but, I guess it just got old. You can only stay so interesting for so long.

Same with MJ, I haven't been excited/interested since '93.

And once again, same with Prince, nothing's really interested me since the name change.

From what I hear, the new video for "American Life" will be just a performance video.

And what's wrong with that? I love the excitement, the speculation, the whole media frenzy that occurs whenever she releases a new CD.Besides,it's not HER fault that so many fans and critics trip off everything she says and does...lol...

yes i'm contemplating buying her cd. i'm not saying i hate the bitch or anything like that. i'm going to give it a cautious listen first. i do love her earlier stuff especially Ray of Light. but now all this coming of age bullshit is a bit dry.
it's the same with Prince. after NPS and Rave, i was thinking ok, time to go, see ya' but i didn't. fortunately TRC sorted that out for me.
and as someone has said already she should have not pulled that video. of course that's her choice and i respect that. i'm not sure about the pro-war stance, i think she has just given support to the troops but not Bush-League. that's another forum and thread so let's leave that there.
but just the fact that she pulled that video smells a bit fishy as if she was looking to be controversial. i mean after all, she is a corporation. an industry, she gotta pay them bills.

if pulling the video was about controversy, she wouldn't be releasing another one 2 weeks later. there is no controversy if she puts out a video for it after all. or, at least, it kind of cuts the legs off of any controversy-as-a-selling-point arguments. at least on the video-pulling issue.

i'm sure it was all a ploy anyway. she pulled the video becuz she knew a war was coming - the video had all these war references in it. now to keep the momentum going she's putting out the "clean" version. all artists do it. Prince did it as well, shit, MJ ain't the King of Pop, he's the King of the Video-Pull cum Controversy.
before y'all get all offended, i don't hate Madge. i often compare her to david Bowie. they like changing things up a lot and they always manage to pull these undeground musos out of the depths of darkness and into populaity.
so that's a good thing right?

me too. i'm glad she pulled it. because, again, i think it would have been hypocritical if she'd put it out, considering what she says the song is about, and what it's actually AGAINST (which isn't the war).

i commend her for having the decency/intelligence to pull it. i'm less thrilled with her willingness to compromise either the anti-war position or the video-pulling position.

but, hey, videos are re-edited and re-shot frequently, so... this isn't unprecedented.

Yeah, I'm not surprised. It just still seems like she's trying to appease people with it this time around- I don't know. The fact that she pulled the original is fine (and wasn't that edited down anyway?), but I would have just let it be pulled, if she felt so strongly about the message that she had.
