Bootsy Collins World Wide Funk His new album comes out 10/27/17 but you can hear the whole thing and read the latest interview he did with NPR at http://www.npr.org/2017/1...-wide-funk
"The funk runs deep and rich on "World Wide Funk," Bootsy Collins' first studio album since 2011's "Tha Funk Capital of the World". Populated with musical friends old and new, and recorded in his Cincinnati home's Bootzilla Re-hab studio, "World Wide Funk" marks both a reckoning and significant reboot, if you will, for the Rhinestone Rock Star Monster of a doll baby baba! Blue-chip rappers like Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, DJ Quik, Dru Down, and Chuck D, along with guitar shedder Buckethead join a Bootsy-curated posse of fresh new artists on a record that embraces everything from the classic P-Funk sound Bootsy pioneered to the closest Collins has ever come to radio-active, boots on the ground friendly fire in a musical-P-rated-adventure. World Wide Funk will be released worldwide on Mascot Records on October 27, 2017 on CD, vinyl, digital download and streaming."

Yeah, it's funky, but... Where's Bootsy? What's the point of listening to a Bootsy track when I hear everybody except... Him? It's like listening to a Rolling Stones album without Mick Jagger...

My only critical note is some of these tracks sound similar to each other. Casper is all over the music maybe not so much so vocally but he's there. I'm picking up the vinyl double Friday. In case you're interested Mojo mag does a nice feature on him in its Dec issue even though it's got some almost unforgivable errors in it (not like them).

Yeah, I know. They also have Bob Dylan on the cover about his born again Christian years. This was when he got as close as he ever did to soul and gospel music, so even if you're not a big Dylan fan, you might wanna check it out.

I immediately recognised the second last song on the album from a live DVD that he released many years ago:

And make no mistake it's a Bootsy record thru and thru. He's coming from a visionary perspective, not unlike some of the classic Quincy Jones records from years ago.

^That stuff was always great when he went down into the audience. I touched him (arm around his shoulder) back in 1995 and I can still remember how sweat-drenched he was. But what do you expect after being on stage for an hour and a half or so...

But what do you expect after being on stage for an hour and a half or so... Yes, he came by me one night doing that whole audience wading thang. You could feel the energy coming off the mugg. He tried it in Atlanta once with P-Funk on the mothership reconnection tour of '96 and some damned fool ganked his star shades.

He held his 66th birthday party and official release party last night here in Nashville. He didn't perform but he did get on stage for about the last hour or so for some dancing, emceeing, and waded through the crowd. His acts he chose to perform since he can't due to his recent health issues, were folks that are featured on the album! I'm still high on funk! #NPG4LIFE... VISIT

I knew I'd like this album based on me liking all of his albums (apart from the weird shit he does with Buckethead) but I didn't expect it to be so good. It's easily the best (non reissue) album of the year for me.

If he's ever gonna bring that new Parliament record he damned sure better come correct now!

It definitely is the late great John Blackwell who played with Prince; Bootsy speaks about him with admiration in an interview from around the 12-16 minute mark: "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato
