Michael Jackson - Scream (Compilation)

source

Scream
Buy/Listen - https://MichaelJackson.ln...SCREAM!bxd

About the album:
Michael Jackson’s 'Scream' is the perfect collection of 13 all-time electrifying dance classics and fan favorites from The King of Pop on one album, including “Ghosts,” “Thriller,” “Dirty Diana” and more. The album also includes a brand-new bonus track: the five-song mash-up “Blood On The Dance Floor X Dangerous (The White Panda Mash-Up).”

This will probably tie in with the pending CBS Halloween special.

While I would normally agree with the sentiment, if the songs are some great mash-ups or remixes, I'm down. Otherwise, there seems to be no new material on it, aside from the remix above.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Respectfully - that argument gets real old real fast. Every artist who has material released after death has that lot of fans yelling "they're just out for the money!". Records don't sell these days, so what cash is the grab? They're likely to make more by sales of that single than anything else...if they do at all.

These estates have to make money. They have to stay fluid and able to sustain themselves That's not a sin, nor should it be poo poo'd on. Who's grabbing all this cash anyway? John McClain or Branca? They've got money and the cash from 30,000 potential sales isn't enough to wipe their asses with.

It's crying wolf to say the same thing every single time something comes out. Compilations are part of any artist's history. How many did MJ have while he was alive? Or The Beatles? Madonna? Janet? I mean - it's just part of the game. But it's not a cash grab.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Of the untold number of unreleased songs languishing in the archives of the estate, this the best they have to offer? Rehashed and repackaged "electrifying dance classics"? 👎 Dislike.

Some people like to complain about every damn thing. Would it be better if the Estate just sat on their asses and did nothing? I like everything that they have done except the "Michael" album. It's damn if they do(release a project) and damn if the don't release anything. I'm excited to hear/see anything "new" or old from Michael. These projects keep Michael's legacy alive and I will be buying it. I'm looking forward to this AND the Halloween special.

Seriously? Who they want to fool with that shit?? No unreleased songs, but exciting releases my ass. I'd say Sony got royally screwed. The paid several 100 millions and got 1 and a half albums of unreleased songs and the rest is repackaged old shit everyone owns already.

As long as there are unreleased songs that could be released, they should release those. Throwing another pointless compilaton on the market will just dillute things further.

Well in fairness, it is a cash grab. They know that there are Michael Jackson fans out there who'll buy anything MJ related. If it wasn't a cash grab, why bother releasing it? It's not even a big new greatest hits compilation. What is it, 13 songs? As someone already pointed out, they're essentially selling a playlist of songs most of us already have.

No, because this isn't even a Greatest Hits collection.
They could have done something similar to the This Is It album release, by including alternate versions.
This would have been the perfect opportunity to include the Adams Family Values song, even the Stranger Things remix of Thriller, or the extended mix of Leave Me Alone.

There's nothing wrong with Greatest Hits or compilations as long as they add value to the artists Legacy. I'm not sure promoting the idea of MJ being 'scary' is appropriate.

The Halloween TV special serves a purpose of introducing MJ to a whole new younger audience, but this collection is quite simply shameful.

And let's not forget the Estate had the perfect opportunity to release Dangerous 25, even if they just included the shelved bonus disc from the remastered release.

Releasing the classical album MJ was working on in 2009 would be great for his legacy. As would an audio book of Dancing The Dream.
But instead we get this Scream playlist.

Fair enough. I would have loved to see some unreleased stuff but maybe this is a release for kids who will watch the new show and introduce them to MJ. I won't be buying this.

Oh my God, this sounds awful, how many times can they repackage the same shit and make us buy it.

.

Compilations of MJ so far

1995 History - okay

1997 BODF - un necessary and dated remixing of history trax

1999 Millenium Collection - some countries only

2001 Limited and special editions of OTW, Thriller, Bad all with unreleased tracks and interviews

2003 The Essential Michael Jackson

2004 Number ones

2008 Thriller25, an abortion with shitty trend rappers and singers like Fergie and Akon, Damye and William - people no one gives a fuck about anymore.

2008 King of Pop, something like 26 albums of greatest hits for different countries

2009 This It It, Icon etc all rehashes and redos

2010 Michael - complete with 3 fake Cascio songs, although there is some decent material here

2012 Bad 25 - Okay this was fairly good except for Pitbull mixes and the French and Spanish versions of IJCSTLY, but we were buying the album again

2014 Xscape - Can't fault this, well not the originals anyway, leave the shit hop producers off it

2016 Off the Wall documentary set, okay doco, but boring more than twice and we have to buy the album AGAIN!!

2017 This shit and I havent even gone into the Jackons/5 material and bazillion Motown and knock off greatest hits collections.

.

There are actually more greatest hits and reissues than actual studio albums themselves!

.

Then again wasn't 4ever of the same vein, just repackaging and reissuing the same old shit and the unreleased track turned out to be a bootleg mix.

Not trying to defend the Estate, as this package is lame, but an unreleased song like The Adams Family is incomplete. I've heard it at Brad's seminar. It's got the "It's a Family Thing" going on in the chorus, but not a lot else.

On Twitter there is a massive amount of fans asking for Dangerous 25 instead.
While the Halloween special is cute. They could have done a bit more with this release. Remixes would have been better than a list of tracks we already own, but hey maybe it goes with the film.

I'm not understanding why they will no longer put out any unreleased tunes. Doesnt make sense. Just means I wont be buying anymore rehashed packages

I am too but the MJ Estate is shady. I think the Halloween cartoon special is a smart business move because MJ's music/image etc will reach more generations. Kids will be singing "Ghosts" and "This Place Hotel". Children watch anything related to halloween when October rolls around. The remixes and mash ups of the songs I have heard sound really really really good. I actually think they sound better than the MJ Immortal sound track. With that being said, the Estate could release more unreleased MJ music and they should do something for the anniversay of Dangerous. I honestly don't like the MJ Estate AT ALL and I don't like all the business decisions they have made since Michael's passing (selling MJs half of Sony catalog and not buying Neverland back) and the Michael album IS a joke outside of the songs that are really MJ. I believe some fans are suing over that album. So IMO if fans question the MJ Estate its justified given their shady motives and past behaviors.

If they approach a deluxe edition to Dangerous like Metallica and Warner Bros has approached the super deluxe edition of Master of Puppets (The HUGE 15 disc edition), they somewhat have enough material to fit on probably 10 CDs and 3 or 4 DVDs, from the original album, all the remixes featured on the single releases, unreleased songs, alternate and early versions (like the 8 minute version of Who Is It that surfaced years ago), the videos, a concert, rehearsals, and other appearances

If Dangerous were to get the anniversary, numbers may not be sufficient enough. Given that the story was retold regarding its legacy and how outside the US including Canada he was massive and had iconic pop culture moments for the next overall generation, and the good that came out of it during the era musically outside the controversies. Not just fan accounts but general public accounts recapturing the era and giving more validity to the re release. Also this would entail bringing to light the fact nevermind did knock dangerous off number one but there's more to that story statistically. Enough accounts are needed from a different angle than what was done for Quincy era albums being profiled to invest in commomerrations of dangerous

Why Metallica can do this but all what MJ issues are compilations??

Easy answer: They ain't trying to put THAT much money and material into one release lol

They've been pretty good on not putting out compilations since he's passed, considering Number Ones and The Essential Michael Jackson still sell (Essential is at #113 on the Billboard 200), but it's obvious his estate have been more focused on casual consumers (although the people who bought the previous releases were mostly the hardcore fans, who have been critical since jump for good reason)

Since he's died, we've seen:
This Is It which they could've put more effort into
Michael- no comment
Immortal- simple tie in to the Vegas show
Bad 25- could've been better but an improvement
Xscape

Off The Wall (just the CD and the Spike Lee documentary)

not to mention the DVDs. You'd think with Michael and what fans and other consumers have been asking for, it would be easy to decide on what to put out

-2 CD sets of unreleased songs, demos, and alternate takes

-Blu Ray collection of all his videos remastered

-Blu ray releases of Thriller (I assume that's coming this year) and Ghosts
-Releases of the Destiny, Triumph, Victory, Bad, and Dangerous tours

-Expanded/super deluxe editions of the solo and Jacksons albums

-The classical album he was putting together

-An album of the songs he was working on when he passed

but instead...we get "Scream" and remixes with Timbaland and Pitbull
