best music for films: grammys, oscars, golden globes, mtvmovie

Let's discuss winners and nominations from over the years for music that was featured in prominent soundtracks at the above awards, the performances at those shows etc., who deserved to win though didn't

Well couple of months ago I watched the James Bond Pop-up channel on Foxtel, and I have to say there are themes songs that should have been nominated/won more awards and were way better than Adele and Sam Smith themes.....for example the classic Goldfinger (1964) by Shirley Bassey

Another Shirley classic Diamonds Are Forever (1971)

Though writings on the wall was well composed, it sounded generic to me, and really feel earned it deserved to win. It's actually so beautiful and passionate and has the makings to become a classic this decade

Also I feel the classic Live & Let Die (1973) by Paul Mccartney which was the first Bond theme song to song be nominated hmph! should have won over The Way We Were by Barbara Streisand nod

Also Carly Simons's Nobody does it Better the theme song from The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) which was nominated and lost to You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone, should have won too.

Even though the legendary Peggy Lee worship was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for Pete Kelly's Blues in 1955, I also think she should have been nominated that year for her work in Lady & the Tramp (1955) especially for Bella Notte nod

Well it also didn't have that much competition either lol when you think about it back in the day an original song could help promote a film and visa versa. Not so much now. Come to think of it why wasn't Prince's When Doves Cry from Purple Rain (1984) nominated for best song at the Oscars?

Isaac Hayes' "Theme From Shaft" and Prince and the Revolution's "Purple Rain" will always be my favorites.

Good point, that's just sad cause that song has aged well and is one of his most known by the general public, though I'm sure being reduced to purple rain era must have been a pain in the ass for prince to deal with, and in retrospect think the minimalist approach he took with around the world in a day was smart, and one of his richest, underrated albums if you ask me

Ah come on, music for films are iconic in itself! In a class of its own outside the musicians franchise too at times!
